A good character study that has you both feeling for and disturbed by the main character at the same time in such a way that is intriguing.

If you didn't like this movie, you just didn't understood it... It's fascinating how an old actor like O'Toole plays a role written specifically for him! It's touching, realistic, it might not make you feel better but it's good for sure.

If there was any sentimentality in the movie (which there probably was, and O'Toole put in a strong performance) it got ruined by the fact a teenager and a senior were coming on to each other. YUCK!!!

Look, it's not a bad movie at all, the problem is that it's more serious than the trailer lets on. It's actualy quite a sensitive look at old age, and that's the part that most people don't get - it's about aging, and a lot of people here are young, so they don't relate. It was sold as a lough-out-loud slap-stick-ganza, and what it is is sweet, a bit shocking, sometimes funny, but mostly it's a drama of a man trying coming to terms with reality. Most people don't really want reality, they want thinly camoflaged familiarity and comfort. This is neither, and made me feel very awkward at times. It was a great movie and I hope you allow yourself to see it with an open mind.

O'Toole was excelent, it's too bad the movie was horrible. Painstakingly slow.

O'TOOLE WAS EXCELLENT, but it was a waste of time to see the movie. I did not laugh. I did not cry. I did not have any emotions whatsoever. It was also a stupid theme -- 75 year old man attempts to buy a 25 year old cute girl with jewelry. Silly. O'Toole will get best actor Oscar out of nostalgia, but movie was a big dud.

What a load of codswallop. A truely sad reflection on British society today. What is this infatuation that the movie makers seem to have developed lately with insisting on having refined English voices swearing at the drop of a hat in every British movie? (ref: any Hugh Grant movie)

Go see this movie mainly to see Peter O'Toole who shows us acting at his best!

I think the average rating this movie is receiving is about right. Peter O'Toole is terrific, as are all the lead actors. Bit over the top swearing was for shock value and I think the words could have changed for the same laugh effect. But I left the theatre quite depressed as the life portrayed is I think everyman's nightmare; Old age equals bad health, poorness in dwindling assets and friends, whilst existing in a tawdry walkup apartment next to a railway...

Peter o'toole must win an oscar for this one. I know I have seen the actress who plays Jessie somewhere...

A wonderful depiction of life lived to the fullest to the very last day... and a demonstration that there will always be something more to learn (as long as we listen to each other and stay open to what life offers us)

Boring with a lot of navel-gazing. A dreary character study at best.

Disappointing. The two old men slow dancing together or hitting each other with newspaper... YUK... whomever wrote the script, shame on you. Jodie Whittaker is excellent in her portrayal of Jessie, the 24 year old nymphet to the aging, 74 year old man in O'Toole. Yeah, you do get to see t&a, its probably the best part of the movie, unfortunately.

Considering the acting genius of Peter O'Toole and a story line with lots of potential, I was miserably disappointed with the depths to which this film fell. Why did the relationship have to resort to a parade of tasteless and somewhat disgusting sexual exchanges. It could have been so much more, and I expected more from an actor of Mr. O'toole's stature.

One might think that Peter O'Toole had ghost-written the declining days of his own biography here. The tragedy of growing old was embodied in the presence of a man who was mature enough to recognize his time was past, yet attempted to turn his fondest memories into a snippet of the present. This film generated a contemplative couple of hours for me.

It makes you think. Are we going to have friends to clip our toe nails when we get old? Are we going to meet young people to give us some of that youth energy? How and where am I going to be when I have a few days left of my life?

Acting is excellent but the actors are let down by a slow, meandering and pointless storyline. If it weren't for the excellent acting on the part of Peter O'Toole, I would have walked out of the movie. One of my step-daughters did walk out and the other felt the interaction between the Peter O'Toole's character and Venus had a serious "ick" factor. What a disappointment!

It really is a pleasure to watch an actor like Peter O'Toole put in a performance like this. What a perfect film for him. Lots of laughs and tears...

This movie had some clever lines and memorable moments. The interaction between Maurice & Ian, played by Peter O'Toole and Leslie Phillips was wonderful as were the scenes with Maurice and his ex- wife, played by Vanessa Redgrave. Where the movie fails in my opinion, is the relationship between Maurice and the young girl he names Venus. There was something that did not ring true here. That they would become friends or even the leacherous though impotent manner of O'Toole's desire, were fine. However the reaction of Venus to his advances and the incremental nature of the liberties he was allowed to take with her, could have been handled better. There is some award worthy acting in this film but I thought it could use a re-write where it concerns Maurice & Venus.
