Incredible! I can't believe I only watched it this year! Very touching with a bitter sweet ending. Amazing what a father would do for his son. Too bad it's not based on a true story, I thought it was at first. Well I will never forget "principessa".

"Life is beautiful" is a drama movie. It's about the Holocaust. At his birthday, Giosue, a little italian boy are arrested by the Nazis (they are jewish) To protect his son from the ugliness of the world, he will make him believe that all this misfortune is just a game... My favourite character is Giosue. His joy and his naïvety made me moved. Every character had a beautiful personality. I appreciated the music too, because it reflected very well the character's feelings. Roberto Benigni (the father) and his wife (the mother) are very nices in this roles. In my opinion, this movie deserves three stars. I don't know the score of critics evaluation. I recommend this movie to the dram's amateurs.

This is what I call a masterpiece. I was lucky enough to see it while it was in theatres, before the great hype. I had no idea what I was in for and it was one of the most memorable moments walking out of a cinema I have experienced.

This was truly one of the greatest movies I've ever seen! It captures the true meaning of life, love, family and humor. Overcoming an incredible horror to save the life of your child with humor!

A must. Everyone should see this movie at least 10 times.
| 10/10 | teledispas@ - 3 reviews 27.3.2006 - age: 26-35 |
Well, what can I say? It's an excellent movie, funny and dramatic at the same time. The humour part is a little bit stupid but still can makes you laugh and the dramatic part makes you feel bad. It has a profound meaning. I'm touched by all the dad did to make his son believe he's going to win the first price. Really, watch it and you won't regret it.

This is my all time favourite movie - it shows that happiness can be created from within regardless of one's environment. It demonstrates the strenght of the human spirit.

This movie was amazing! Very touching and I really felt how sad the father was and how he had to think of these games on the spot. I must to see!

This movie is just fantastic just as "Schindlers List" was, it touches your heart but it also shows the strenght of a human to make a lighterside in life in darktimes..

This was absolutely the best comedy I've seen about the Holocaust. I will mention that I studied Italian film and I got in an argument with my professor who hated this film because it was a comedy. I believe that it is not only funny, but exemplifies a general truth about the Holocaust (anti-semetism, violence, concentration camps.. etc.) It is obviously inaccurate in many historical respects. If you don't mind doing some reading then you absolutely must go see this film and get a great laugh.

There are two versions. English and Italian. You MUST see the Italian one with the subtitles. It gives more impact. Great story and very powerful. A bit complex for children. It has become my favorite movie of all time!

ANYONE who does not like this movie needs to be shot. THIS MOVIE is awesome. I've been studying the Holocaust since the 6th grade, I own over 40 books on it and over 10 movies on it and have seen more movies then that... and this movies portrays the hardships beautifully. Roberto did an OUTSTANDING job - it was an absolutely BREATHE TAKING movie! I could watch it over and over.

I've never watched a movie that gives me such an emotional moment like this. I've been sad for a few days after watching this film! Well done, Roberto! I am not happy that I didn't know you until 2003!!

A desperate attempt in creating a highly dramatic movie. Since it's awards at the Oscars there is not more talk of this movie. It's already in the past and not remembered as anything out of the ordinary. Roberto Begnini is too dramatic in his expressions and, at least for me, it takes off the validity of his character development, it just seems somewhat too exagerated.

RENT IT. This movie is a great story, it's humourous and very sobering at times. Acting is A1. This is an Italian movie that is dubbed in English, but after 5 minutes, you won't even notice.
| 10/10 | dheath@ - 14 reviews 18.1.2002 - age: 36-49 |
Life Is Beautiful fails because it doesn't show the real reality of the concentration camps.

There were so many people upset with the fact that this is a movie made by an Italian comedian about the Holocaust. WRONG! It is an amazing movie. The setting is secondary. This could have taken place anywhere, the ghetto, Bosnia, Egypt, who cares! The point of this movie is to show you the relationship of a father and son and what the father does to protect his son. Truly a masterpiece in the same vein as Cinema Paradiso.

It's my fauvorite film. I'm doing an English exam and I have to speak about something that I like and it must be interesting and my topic is going to be: LIFE IS BEAUTIFULL.

The best dramatic film I have ever seen... I'm crying even as I remember it, and I haven't seen it in two years. In fact, I did not go to see ANY movie again for six months after seeing Life Is Beautiful... How do you tamper with perfection? Benigni has ALL the emotions and human conditions covered: comedy, pathos, romance, tragedy, history. He's a wiry little guy, not much to look at, but OH!, can he emote! I recommend EVERYTHING he has ever starred in, including the movies in which he had bit parts (including Down by Law). It will be many a year, if ever, for another movie to come along to knock this one out of its lofty place. GO SEE IT, dammit!
| 10/10 | rosemary@ - 22 reviews 26.2.2001 - age: 36-49 |
The first time I saw the movie in a theatre. I loved it. The second time, I rented it recently on DVD. Some of my friends were not interested to read the subtitles, so we decided to watch the dubbed version in English. What a surprise! It's excellent in its translated version! English voices had Italian accent, and some phrases were kept in original Italian, so the movie didn't lose anything. Buongiorno principessa!
| 10/10 | misio@ - 27 reviews 17.2.2001 - age: 26-35 |
Of course, in this case, the masses are right. This movie was fantastic. It took a horrible and (sorry to say) over-used topic in Hollywood (the Holocaust) and made it into a sad-happy, funny, gorgeous story. Throw in a cute little boy and you have a winner.

It had to take an italian right? It was just great. I did not want to go see it because I tought it was gonna be one of those foren movies. As soon as the movie started I laughed my head off, and then cried. It was just to good to be true.
