Is demonic possession the outcome of mental illness, superstitious beliefs, psychiatric disorder, religious indoctrination or something else? THE RITE is an attempt to answer this age-long question. Hopkins is not at his best in his Jesuit exorcist character. The movie is too surface-knowledge. It does not tackle substantially the multifaceted issue of demonic possession.
