Now Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas has, like the Big Lebowski, become an underground cult phenomenon that people spout off as their so called favorite movie. Yet both films tanked at the box office so where exactly were these people then when I was paying my hard earned money to see them? Posers. Anyway this film, a semi-prequel to FLLV, also recently tanked at the box-office. Now Johnny Depp has openly admitted that he made the film as a promise to Hunter S Thompson which is further proof of just how cool a guy Johnny Depp is. Yet unfortunately, good intentions does not a good movie make. This film is slowly paced, rather flimsy, and nowhere near the erratic and drug-fueled trip that Loathing was. There are some scattered moments of fun to be had supplied mostly by Giovanni Ribisi as an alcoholic (putting it mildly) reporter who drinks 170 proof alcohol and likes to listen to Adolf Hitler records. In short a letdown even though I wasn't expecting it to match the classic lunacy of Loathing.
