My friends walked out, I was bored to death! (get the point) a death movie. A rip off, loose the plot it looks like a mish mash of other movies. The mask at end is stolen from "SCREAM" KEEP AWAY, DULL boring and a good "MISS this MOVIE". Try the Cinema next door. Agony, I sat & saw the whole movie, no point to the end, WHAT END?

Let me start off by saying that I am not a fan of the Paranormal Activity movies, even though I've watched the first three. The reason for that is because everything is slow and nothing interesting happens until near the end of the movies. This is not the case in Sinister. Sinister will keep grabbing your attention with suspenseful moments. To those who thought the movie wasn't "scary", I am not sure what you are expecting. No movies are truly scary because we know that they are just films with actors. If you are someone who can simply sit down and enjoy a movie, then do watch this. It is not bad by any means.

This movie was hilarious. I spent the whole time laughing as well as also being scared! But mostly laughingXD.
| 10/10 | dagoon@ - first review 20.1.2013 - age: 13-17 |
This movie was the same old crap just with a different monster who rarely shows itself anyway and when it does, it does not strike fear into you at all. SUCK SUCK SUCK the horror genera does.

For scary movies, not bad. A solid 7! Few good scenes that get you on edge, so what more can you ask?

A whole lot scarier that the Paranormal Activity movies. I am in love with this movie. However, the ending was stupid. Scariest movie I have ever seen though.
| 9/10 | kaleigh@ - first review 26.11.2012 - age: 13-17 |
It was slow going with a twist but kept one going for sure. Had its scary moments but overall not a bad horror/thriller.

Really scary, needs more cred. I think the children scenes were awesome!

There are a lot of mixed reviews on this movie but here's my opinion coming from a girl who loves horror/thriller movies. Possession flicks, gore, creature feature, campy, whatever- as long as it's got SUSPENSE. Sinister has SUSPENSE. Would I call it scary? No. People use that word a lot with a review- suspenseful? YES. Disturbing? Oh it has its moments- that's a guarantee; but did I loose sleep? No. And to be honest with you that's what I loved about the movie. Good fun, jumps, Hawk did a great job, and the story was great, it had me talking- but not sleepless. What really set it apart was the music. During most suspenseful scenes the norm is a bu-bump... bu-bump... but not this one- it took the sounds of the Super 8 film and kicked a beat. I found myself bopping my head to families being killed- and that is what makes it its own. There are a few things I would have loved to see differently- but over all the movie is a must see and the soundtrack even more so.

I was usually okay watching scary movies, but this one scared me well after the movie ended! The silent videos being filmed really kept me from falling asleep a few nights after that, so it made it's mark!
| 8/10 | elena.kozlova@ - first review 11.11.2012 - age: 18-25 |
It was okay but watching it you knew what was going to happen next which really sucks. And only filming in a house for the whole movie and oh another house means it was poorly budget. They should of had the town of where they were living in it. It would of be a lot better so I really think you shouldn't go see this movie.

I'm not usually a person to write reviews, but the negative ratings have no credibility [...] I'm a movie fanatic, and this film was nothing short of a masterpiece.[...] I'm VERY, I repeat VERY delighted that I ignored the bad reviews; [...] This film is not for the faint of heart by any means, however if you're looking for a brilliant film, (acting/directing/content/story-line), it's highly recommended. The only warning I have is it will make you look twice at the supernatural... and in the dark.
| 10/10 | calgary1403@ - first review 9.11.2012 - age: 26-35 |
Horror movies are all very subjective. What I like will not always be what my neighbour or friend will like, and this is a good example. People seem to either really like this film or feel it's a big waste of time... I loved it. I found the story to be engaging, the acting was great and there were more than a few adequate scares. I highly recommend it.
| 9/10 | gneill@ - first review 5.11.2012 - age: 36-49 |
Event though there really wasn't very scary, the story is really sick minded. The movie has a lot of tension and delivers a few chills. The ending is a fresh change from the norm.

I loved this movie. I chose this over Paranormal Activity 4 and I'm sure I made the right choice. Went with my girlfriend and she was really scared. Great movie!

I saw this at a late showing, the only thing worth while about this movie is the scary music. I didn't get scared at the the story line was so dumb, I wasn't even the smallest bit frightened. I wouldn't tell anyone to waste their money watching this crap.

I went to see Sinister this evening after seeing Paranormal 4 last weekend, I was looking forward to Paranormal 4 and couldn't care less if I saw Sinister, to my surprise, Sinister was a better film. I gave Paranormal 4 a four out of ten, I will give Sinister a 7 out of 10. Yes it is a predictable film with lots of sinister style music, lots of loud bangs and bumps but the audience, like myself, jumped several times and the ending was not bad, again it was predictable but on the whole it was probably one of the better horror films I saw this year.
| 7/10 | jtapley2@ - 5 reviews 2.11.2012 - age: 50+ |
I was very impressed. A rated R movie with no nudity, no sex and very little bad language. Rated R for very disturbing images from the moment the movie begins. It is original, creative, unsettling and terrifying. Talked about it for days. Great horror flick.

Terrible down right terrible, don't see it, don't even waste your time watching the trailer. XP.
| 1/10 | bubblystars_321@ - first review 1.11.2012 - age: 1-12 |
The sound effects were very good. The adult actors were convincing, but the story line was too predictable. For this genre of film, the movie will be long forgotten within months, like John Cusack's The Raven. I could not believe the "zombie" make-up in this flick... Did the kids do it themselves? The overall idea of the story was novel but it was not as credible as it could have been.
| 5/10 | psterl3384@ - 123 reviews 31.10.2012 - age: 36-49 |
Why are people rating this movie 7 or more. It is mindless drivel and will really disappoint you. Don't make that mistake. Avoid like the plague. Be forewarned, this is trash and the storyline is non-existent.
| 2/10 | zakjustleft@ - 11 reviews 29.10.2012 - age: 26-35 |
I really enjoy this movie. 1. I went in thinking it was going to be okay, this year had nothing but bad scary movies. 2. For a movie that was 1 hour 50 mins, it was never slow, it got to the point, and built up the terror, had the perfect twists and planted everything at the right time, and I loved how what you saw in the trailers, you think was going to happen, and would be teased, so you wait for it so you wouldn't jump, and it happens later when you stop thinking about it. 3. Acting was so well done 4. This movie would not be as good if it wasn't for the sound, probably the best sound I heard in a horror movie, so creepy, sends shivers up my spine, really added to the movie and the story being told. This is a great movie indeed.

Some nice reviews here. This movie was OK. Like nearly all films these days it never occurred once to this movie to be great, which in better hands was possible. It ran out of gas fairly quickly. There are much better names for this - 'Home Movies' for one. Wack title.
| 6/10 | nickwinters@ - 15 reviews 26.10.2012 - age: 26-35 |
It's very effective for what is at play. I would say that the film does have some elements that some may not have seen yet in this genre. However, it is slightly littered with cliche's (which isn't a bad thing considering how well they are played out) Also, Ethan Hawke is fantastic in this role and is very convincing. For all horror genre fans, this is a must see, and for newcomers to the genre, you are sure to be left slightly paralyzed.

Edge of of my seat from start to finish. Glad I ignored the haters. A crucial landmark in horror films history. Absolute, positively 10/10. I agree with the review below indicating that our current state of mind usually has a large impact on what we take out of a film; not always though. I will be the first to admit that there are certain films I have watched that I just did not waste any room in my memory banks, and 'ctrl, alt, deleted' them out of my skull; in this particular case I was fascinated. I have always respected Ethan as an actor - This is his best performance since Training Day.

Okay so Sinister was an okay movie, it was not that scary, 2 jumping parts but that's about it, I thought it would of been better.

I am a Horror movie fanatic and I've seen almost everything so my problem is NOTHING scares me. Well, I am happy to admit I jumped a few times during Sinister!!! It was AMAZING, Ethan did an excellent acting job getting across his fears, anxieties, concerns, etc. One of the best theatre ones in a long long time. Very unique story line with a little predictability but the movie was well done. I don't understand why its ratings are so bad, if you crave a horror movie that's different from the ones out recently, you have to see this.

Not very scary. The murder sequences don't seem all that believable. And when we learn at the end who is perpetrating these crimes it becomes even less credible. Ethan Hawk is a good actor and there is a surprise brief appearance of Vincent D'Onofrio from Law and Order but they are not enough to make the film that interesting. One plus is the art direction which is original and lends to the nuance of the 1970s with its old celluloid home movies. The story gives the correct impression that crime during those times in America was more prevalent if not more difficult to solve because of the lack of modern digital technology and current investigative methods. It’s hard to make a scary horror film. The secret… make it believable which is ever so difficult in this deductive digital world we live in today.

This horror movie was well executed, but proved to be a little too predictable. There were too many jump scares for it to actually be frightening in any way. It was just another generic horror movie.

I took my 14 year old son and his friend to see this movie and granted they thought it was A LOT scarier than I did, we all thought it was just an alright movie, not the best but it did succeed in making us jump a few times. The story is good but it could have involved maybe a bit more background. Watch it at home in the dark instead. I thought Ethan did a fine job, the lady who plays the wife seemed to be over-acting.

The interesting thing about movies is that how we feel a lot of the time dictates what we think of the movie. I didn't have a headache or feel tired. I was totally caught up in the movie and loved how they used the film and movie projector to help move the story along and there were times I thought I was going to have a restless night because of the scares. Great horror movie.

I feel like I'm being generous to give this a 5. Ethan Hawke was fantastic but nothing much else about this movie was appealing. It was formulaic, predictable, and had a cheesy ending. The home video idea had a lot of potential; potential that was wasted along with Hawke's great acting. This movie wasn't creepy at all let alone scary. I jumped once the entire movie but spent most of the rest of it disappointed. I know some people who liked it so if you're curious go see it. Maybe it's just me.
| 5/10 | jasonjwbrown@ - 8 reviews 22.10.2012 - age: 36-49 |
This movie wasn't great and by no means scary if anything it's startling, people seem to confuse being scared and startled. Story wasn't too original but wasn't bad. A lot of the time it's just the main character walking around in the dark with a flashlight. I did like the old movie part scenes though and I liked how there was a comic relief character. The story was quite predictable as well. The ending I thought was ok, better than most horror movie endings but could have been much better, it just felt rushed. This is a good movie to see with a bunch of friends just to sit back and have fun. Not a blockbuster hit by any means but enjoyable.

What can I say... there were some short moments I thought - yes - this is good and going somewhere, but these were short lived. Actually there were quite a few chuckles from the audience especially when the comedic police officer was on screen. More chuckles than chilling scene reactions. Ethan Hawke played a depressive role, never changing his sweater in a house that was really poorly lit and that had no personality in it. The wife was incredibly poorly cast and utterly annoying. I do like the concept of watching actors on screen watching movies and also internet skyping. The close ups of the projector were really good. But on the whole I found this movie to be silly and lingering. It was a disappointment.
