Did not know what the movie was about until I saw it. It has a good point and the story telling was superb. Strange but true how some people can do what he did and not have a problem with that until... things start to take form so to speak.

This is about the destiny of a man due to his obsession. We are left without knowing whether or not he'd have the same end as the other one, however I hope that he learns and rectifies his wrong doings and gets a happier ending.

The three layers of this movie make it a little bit hard to understand, especially the one involving Dennis Quaid and Olivia Wilde, but aside from that, I really enjoyed it. My favorite story was the one from the stolen book, which brought me to tears a few times. The filming and the colors of that part were beautiful. The layer with Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana was good too.

Okay, my comment is 'SPOILER' in capital letters but I hope it is printed to clear things up for some people. In an attempt to help those who are confused, the way I understand this story is that it's a story (the movie aka "The Words") within a story (writer's career involving plagiarism) within a story (Iron's character's life) Quaid's character is reading excerpts from his latest book describing the evolution of HIS literary career, writing in the 3rd person and using a different name for the main character (Bradley Cooper's portrayal) The movie doesn't really 'need' an ending as it is clear that the main character has found inner peace at long last. He has finally written an acclaimed book in his OWN words, the 'next book' suggested by the old man and, although momentarily tempted, he comes to the realization that he is unable to be unfaithful to his true love and wife (Zoe Saldana.) Capice?

The Words has a beautiful yet tough premise. What if you’re not good enough? However, the execution fails miserably, for numerous reasons. While the story, in the story concept is interesting, it’s rare to see movies which can handle and deliver it flawlessly. Unfortunately, The Words is not one of those movies. Granted the 1st hour is interesting and engaging, but the more we advance in the movie, the less focused it becomes. The writer, director team have added a narrator, probably because they couldn’t decide on the ending, which makes you feel robbed of a story with an ending. What is most distracting are the shabby production values. Montreal as Paris and Montreal as New York just doesn’t pass. Not for a second, I could believe in a fake Paris. If the production designer had taken the time to do some research, he would have realized that basements are rather rare in Paris. And this is just a tip of the iceberg, the bus, the city has not that bustling field of New York, which they tried to push with a couple of yellow cabs. If they had focused on the park benches, we could’ve been fooled that we’re in New York… And finally the female characters are so unreal and pointless that you don’t get them. A woman writer could have added more nuance to the women, which seem either badly cast. One looks out of an L’Oreal add for eyelashes, whilst Olivia Wilde character has a bad case of clothes.

First of all, it is not a suspense thriller. It is a Drama. And a very good one. Keeps you interested throughout. Jeremy Irons is fabulous!! Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana do not have good chemistry. Story is very interesting. The back and forth did not bother me but left a lot of holes. I think the makers of the movie either did not have enough time to tell the whole story or wanted to let the viewer imagine what would fill the blanks. Overall all 4 of us enjoyed the movie. Not an action flic. Fairly uneventful as far as dramatic suspense or action, just a good interesting story.

My husband and I enjoyed this movie but were a bit confused by the ending. The old man did a great job playing his role but Dennis Quaid's role seemed unmoving in comparison to everyone else's contribution. The story was clean of bad language, sex and violence - a refreshing change! A good ethical film where you leave knowing that choices we make in life have consequences.

Without guns and killing it keeps the interest of the viewer while addressing ethical questions. A story within a story that hides another one may not be a new approach but still an intriguing one well handled by top actors. Female actresses however were not all representing the period they were belonging to. Excellent film.

The story is very very good, it's original, with a little twist. I like it a lot. It's not boring at all. Mr. J. Irons is magnificent in that movie. Lovers of books, you must see that movie.

The exterior frame is dreadful. The central story about a failing writer had some promise, but the writers had no idea what to do with it after they'd set up the principal conflict of the film. The ending is a clever attempt to escape a story line for which they can find no credible resolution, but it fails on all counts.

This movie is definitely worth seeing if for nothing else than an original screenplay and surprise plot points. The movement between fiction and non-fiction was interesting. Would not have hurt to make it another twenty minutes longer.

I liked the story of an old man about his Paris life, the other stories within stories within stories... etc. seem too complicated for me. I didn't get the end at all, who invented who? Was it an old writer who invented all of the characters or the young writer who did? Or the old one is the young one in future? I left confused.

My husband and I enjoyed this movie very much. Refreshing story within a story within a story! The plagiarism story line was well done in that the "writer" just wanted to "'feel' what it was like to 'write' a good story." Jeremy Irons walked away with the acting, of course, no surprise there and casting him was a stroke of genius. Bradley Cooper played the part well, but Dennis Quaid's acting got tired by the end (maybe he was) The female actors had weak roles in my opinion. The ending? It left me wanting to rewind the last ten minutes! Did I miss something? Very worthwhile though and worth the price of admission. Wish studios would make more "thoughtful" movies like this--anybody listening?

A story within a story within a story, each as interesting as the other two. Great acting and a great script. Very slow paced with intelligent dialogue. The editing was great, you knew exactly in which story you were. Interesting to the very end.

Although this flick has holes in it big enough to throw a typewriter through, it's wonderful. A casting problem has many viewers puzzled; always tough to depict a young character and then the same character 40 or 50 years older. But if you can sort out that this happens again, a 30 year old man who wanted to be a great novelist, and himself again later when he is famous -- you're home free! A bit thin that a young American boy with no apparent training in Literature turned out a great novel, and that a French girl read it apparently with ease. The old man, the actual author, wrote the novel in great pain, a pattern for many greats; Mozart! 'You made a mistake -- live with it! ' is a breath of fresh air.

A very interesting film, one that keeps you guessing as it builds toward the conclusion. It has a similar feel to the movie Inception, coming to the conclusion: what is real and what is fiction? The actors and actresses were expertly chosen and meshed together well both in their style, and they way each scene supported the next. Emotional, thrilling, and lovely, The Words can twist your view of how choices can threaten the way your life is directed, both mentally and physically. I was caught off guard by the conclusion, but I won't spoil it for any potential moviegoer. The Words is nothing short of original, heart-melting, and strong. Listen and let the words flow.

I struggled with how I would rate this movie because in the end, I felt I was not qualified to judge it. Was it too deep for me? Acting was all pretty good, but I didn’t think Dennis Quaid and Zoe Saldana were good cast choices. The story line and how it was communicated on screen was different and refreshing, but my simpleton measure for any movie is would I watch it again? Did I have this uncontrolled desire to share the plot with anyone who would ask “how was the movie?” It’s worth seeing once, but not necessarily on the big screen.

Got free tickets to a preview and went in without knowing anything about the movie. My wife and I really enjoyed it. The story within a story within a story was very well done. Jeremy Irons did a fantastic job. After the fact, I am also pleased to see that it was shot in Montreal - cool!

Even though I found the movie very predictable, maybe because it reminded me of Atonement, it is one of the best movies I've seen this year. The main theme, guilt, is touched upon in such a subtle manner that it does not become overwhelming for the viewer who cannot help but sympathize with the main character's torment. The trailer was enticing enough to draw people to the theaters but Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana are not the true stars of this movie. Kudos to Ben Barnes, Nora Arnezeder and Jeremy Irons for their performance.

Long and boring story with a dismal ending. Dennis Quaid wasn't quite into it. Zoe Saldana was definitely miscast. Her relationship with Cooper wasn't believable. Perhaps someone else could have made things better. I went in with high expectations due to the reviews I had read, but was very disappointed.

Well worth the price of admissions. Don't expect explosions and special effects; Just an excellent story about the price we pay for the choices we make. Great performances by Cooper, Saldana, Quaid and Irons especially. Stands out amongst the choice of movies in the summer of 2012. Enjoy the show. This one is worth the price of admission.
