I wish I was warned that Sherlock Holmes got artsy-fartsy. They should have taken the money they used to make this movie and put it into something actually awesome (like the TV show SHERLOCK which puts these movies to shame)

A fantastic sequel of the best Holmes reboot ever made!
| 9/10 | chwebb1@ - 259 reviews 17.2.2013 - age: 13-17 |
The second Sherlock Holmes is also a brilliant movie, the plot is incredible, the actors are amazing, the soundtrack is one of the best I have ever heard and the combination of action and humour is just outstanding. A must-see!

Just as good if not better than the first one, very funny and full of action... the acting of course is excellent.

This movie was great and lots of action. Loved it!

When Sir Arthur Conan Doyle penned the character of Sherlock Holmes I doubt he envisioned his famed inspector running through the forests of France being shot at slow-motion style by mortars. That remains the biggest problem with this film, that director Guy Ritchie doesn't seem to know what to do with Holmes or Watson who drift through endlessly repetitive fight scenes quibbling back and forth like spoiled children. Both Downey Jr and Law work a lot harder than they should given the material they've been saddled with, where even the legendary villain Prof Moriarty is rather dull, safe for a rather neat final confrontation. The door was left open for a sequel but after two less than stellar films in a row I doubt it'll happen soon.

Like the first one this is a solidly entertaining romp that laughs at itself frequently. You can't help but like Robert Downey. I could watch this if they made a sequel every year and never get tired of it. It's funny, it's stupid, it's a little bit deep but mostly Hollywood gratuitous action. Great music and camera work.

I feel ripped off. They said this would be a normal movie not an artsy fartsy's dream.

It's not what you'd expect. It doesn't make sense until the end.

I got hooked on the Sherlock Holmes series from BBC over a decade ago and I thought the first movie with Downey and Law was mildly passable. I wished at the the makers would incorporate more of Doyle's Holmes mythos for a sequel. I was not disappointed. It was great to see Mycroft Holmes and the R. Bach falls incorporated. I think this is an improvement on Doyle as it adds more action and comedy. Detective fiction often misses that.

Better than the first one. An excellent sequel. Looking forward to more in this series.

I had high expectations for this film and was not disappointed! The music score is impeccable... the visuals are amazing to say the least! Kudos to the foley artists... the sounds are incredible and make the action feel alive. I felt as if I had been transmitted into the story itself! Simply the presence of the villian made me cringe... terrific performance from him, so convincing! As for Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, to say they are a dynamic duo is a gross understatement... they were even more comical and intense in this installment and completely embodied their characters! And the plot, mind-boggling, full of twists and turns... I was on the edge of my seat! Stellar! Can't wait to see it again!
| 10/10 | cascanej@ - 37 reviews 18.3.2012 - age: 18-25 |
The 1st one was better. If you missed it, you would not understand some of the nuances surrounding the Sherlock character or some of the call backs to the 1st episode. The villain was better in the 1st movie as well and it was darker and more mysterious than this installment. I'd give this a 7.5 and had more eye candy than brain candy.

I saw the first one that came out previously in the theater. I liked it, but had trouble following it. So with this sequel, I really wanted to like it as I saw it in the theater as well. But the result wasn't what I was expecting. I really enjoy the actors, both Jude Law and Downey Jr., but I got lost in it again. The stars companions were entertaining also. The music soundtrack was perfect for the time period of the story. The direction was swift-paced... I have never seen such photography, especially with its original look. You can see it in the first story too. This film has enough courage to be unlike anything shown in the theater.
| 8/10 | james_leroy@ - 15 reviews 7.3.2012 - age: 36-49 |
I cannot remember being so entertained. I enjoyed the First of this series and it's not often a sequel improves on itself. Guy Ritchie has done it again. Fast paced, full of wit and humour, twisting plot and action sequences that take your breath away. Excellent choice of cast and great chemistry. Don't miss this one.
| 9/10 | roy.vanluven@ - 9 reviews 5.3.2012 - age: 50+ |
Dumbfounded how Ritchie retains so much humour and sharp, pithy dialogue amidst his purposely overly convoluted plots and antics. Probably better than the first. If you don't understand the plot, who cares (join the rest of us... if you can't appreciate the movie for its humour, well, Chipmunks are still playing next door!
| 9/10 | caligulablush@ - 4 reviews 23.2.2012 - age: 36-49 |
10 times better than the first! Loved this movie, love that they keep it clean enough to take your kids (still use discretion, some parts may be frightening) Moriarty is seriously twisted, Downey Jr. is fabulous, as is Jude Law... and Holme's brother is an excellent addition to this one. Can't wait to see it again! See, you can make a movie that is improved upon by its lack of profanity!

The second installment of Sherlock Holmes has a lot going for it. Wry humour from Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. The director Guy Ritchie's incredible eye for detail and his very obvious rapport with his actors makes this better than the first movie in every way. Thouroughly enjoyable from start to finish takes the viewer on an incredibley breathtaking ride. With imaginative storytelling it leaves us wanting more. I can't wait for the next installment to hit the screen.

You get so caught up with the story it's just amazing! The plot, the effects, everything was just perfect! As good as the first one and it was even funny at some point. When I say funny, it's just pure humour that makes you enjoy even more the adventure. The actors were all great and I couldn't expect more than it already is! A MUST SEE!!
| 10/10 | zoliedream@ - 3 reviews 20.2.2012 - age: 18-25 |
Long, drawn out and a snoozer at times. A great effort by Downey, but far too much diatribe.
| 5/10 | kimberleypedersen@ - 3 reviews 20.2.2012 - age: 36-49 |
Very good film. Love Downey Jr.'s character as Holmes; Jude Law as Watson, awesome - a must see/ well done movie, with a good story. No Oscar, but very entertaining / worth the price of admission.
| 8/10 | igor.zebic@ - 3 reviews 20.2.2012 - age: 36-49 |
Action filled... no time to go to the bathroom or you will miss something pertinent. Great music, amazing actors, great story line with suspense (don't worry you won't scream from being frightened) Now I know why people said this movie was worthwhile to see and I concur.
| 9/10 | ijeh99@ - 15 reviews 18.2.2012 - age: 36-49 |
Robert Downey Jr.'s performance is wonderful, even better than the first. The storyline is a little slow to get started, and it felt like there were things they were forgetting to tell you along the way. The last 30 minutes is where most of the action is and where everything starts to make sense. Overall a great movie.

Better than ghost protocol, if you are deciding between the two.

An amazing installment to the franchise - I thoroughly enjoyed this movie - great acting and chemistry between the actors, intelligent yet highly silly comedy and outstanding creative directing/film making on Guy Ritchie's behalf!

Sherlock Holmes as Ninja Attack Hero? Definitely don't go see this movie.

Robert Downey Junior and Jude Law are a joy to watch together. They know how to keep the humour coming.

I love Sherlock Holmes but there was so much action in it and it moved very very fast. I preferred the first one, but the scenery in this one was beautiful. So sometime I ignored the action and just focused on the surroundings.
| 7/10 | patriciamills@ - 11 reviews 3.2.2012 - age: 50+ |
Fell asleep the first time I saw this. The second time I gave it an honest attempt, and I really couldn't get in touch with the story and characters. These Sherlock Holmes movies are NOTHING like the books, and have no basis in the original ideas. Downey performs like Johnny Depp. The story is easily forgettable and the film is dressed up for pointless entertainment rather than mystery and thriller. Not my cup of tea.

Naomi Rapace was great in this very different role from the Millenium trilogy.
| 9/10 | gigiyaz28@ - 8 reviews 31.1.2012 - age: 26-35 |
A good escape movie - recommend seeing it in theaters since it's filmed fairly dark. I enjoyed the first Sherlock Homes better as it had more action, but this was still a good continuation.
| 7/10 | canuckx3@ - first review 30.1.2012 - age: 36-49 |
I loved this film... Its hidden humor and its obvious plot really went farther than beyond. The actors portrayed the characters so well and so realistically, you forget who they really are. Everyone who saw it loved it and I feel the same way! Best film ever!!
| 10/10 | winnipegcritic@ - 5 reviews 29.1.2012 - age: 1-12 |
I went into this movie thinking it would hopefully be better than the first one (since I slept through most of the first movies action sequences) this movie has a good cast, the acting was good but it still wasn't good enough to keep me awake. I slept through most of the movie even the action sequences.

Superb... Mind-boggling. Of course it's Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. What more the enthusiast are looking for? The best suspense-adventure I ever saw so far...

| 8/10 | rejuky@ - 3 reviews 28.1.2012 - age: 50+ |
Top of the Line movie, Downey should've been nominated for academy here. Downey knew he should've been nominated here, you could tell by his sarcasm at the Globes. This was a tough role foe an actor to play, Downey outperforms here. Downey you show you're an actor above the rest here, bravo!!!

It was exciting since the beginning until the end. It improved you to trigger your imagination and ideas about the possible difficulties and solutions in the story. We would like to see that movie again because it was a story full of jokes.

A well crafted clever action tale, with numerous twists and turns to keep the viewer guessing. I especially enjoyed the subtle humor as it kept the action from being overbearing.
