Harvey Milk's demise was not a well kept secret from theatre goers but I expected it to be at the hands of a fanatical homophobic, not a mainstream individual who actually had befriended him. This conclusion was not surprising for a man with Milk's aggressive and centrally focused personality. Both these characteristics are probably common in people who achieve the unachievable. I heard it said that Sean Penn is homophobic. If so, my opinion of his skills as an actor and his dedication to his profession is raised to a level well above that of simply a former Oscar recipient.
