Pretentious. The dictionary definition is "characterized by an assumption of dignity or importance". That's what going on in this film. Director Darren Aronofsky has once again, as he did in The Wrestler, taken a seemingly interesting and conceivably powerful idea and reduced it to nothing more than cliched, predictable, almost cartoonish drivel. When you don't have an insightful original idea in the script then throw blood or other bodily fluids at it. This somehow passes for "powerful , emotional , artistic " when all it really is smoke and mirrors signifying nothing. There is no there there. At least slasher movies don't pretend to be something they're not.
