Great performances by two amazing actors (Shannon and Chasting) and just for that, I would suggest the movie. The story is good but I felt like this could have been an amazing short movie... not a 2 hour movie. Many scenes are too slow for my taste and the ending didn't impress me either. Not a movie for everyone, but the great performances makes it worth watching.

Great acting and storyline with a figure it out for yourself ending! Don't know if I got the finish right but it looks like the daughter has become auto tuned to the traumatic effects storms have had in her life and the wife has shown an acceptance in the end to what she has to deal with ahead of her!

Absolutely brilliant story accompanied by award deserving performances from the whole cast. Believable, compelling and the character driven. Don't be put off by the slow start. Possibly the best movie I have seen this year and I have seen quite a few.

A believalbe story about the the onset of mental illness. The acting was top notch too.

I was very surprise how good the movie was... The story was entertaining and kept me guessing until the end...

The fine line between dementia and premonition is a recurrent theme in cinema. The most celebrated of the genre is probably The Shining by Kubrick. The main character, Curtis dealing with these/his demons does not come across as sympathetic. He appears selfish. Chastain seams to be everywhere in american cinema at the present time, but she is so good. A good film, nothing more.

This movie is compelling, the acting is unbelievable (Michael Shannon outdoes himself), and the underlying subtext of the movie is something that anyone with any interest in the human condition, or the state of affairs in our present times can relate to. This movie makes you think and you it does not spoon feed you a cookie cutter ending. There is an underlying subtext to the ending!

Michael Shannon at his best ever, good story and great cast. Visually amazing, rather long, not for all to see.

Michael Shannon's acting is the best thing about this film. Jessica Chastain is very good as well. I thought the initial premise of a man dealing with internal anxieties juxtaposed against a possible future apocalypse was quite compelling. However, the story became manipulative by focusing on the mental illness aspect. I would recommend the film for its terrific acting but caution people that it's somewhat slow and has a confusing ending.

This movie has the effect of making the viewer feel overtaken. There is a weird dynamic between mental illness and prophecy here.

The acting was excellent. Having said that the movie was: too intense, too long, boring. The ending is the only thing that saved this from me losing my mind.

Michael Shannon's best performance and Jessica Chastain's best from this year (and she's been in everything) An excellent psychological examination of the average American man, with a great metaphor for the troubled times we live in.

I think that a lot of people will find a problem with the pace of this film but I thought that events unfolded in a very natural way. The silences are awkward as are the confrontations - which are very human and realistic. Michael Shannon is one of the best actors working today and Jessica Chastain is a good match as his reluctantly supportive wife. The supporting players are very well cast and the overall film is quite touching.

I thought this movie was amazing. I know that many people will not agree, but to me it was pretty incredible. The acting is fantastic, the story is very original and compelling, and the feeling it leaves you with is very rare for a movie to succeed in doing. I loved it.

I really enjoyed this. Subtle, unnerving and some great scenes of almost unbearable tension. Remarkable use of silence and suggestion creates a mesmerizing sense of atmosphere, an overwhelming fear of something very unpleasant lying in wait - and there are several ways of interpreting just what that might be. I understand that it may not be to everyone's taste - I saw a couple of people walk out of the theatre at the showing I attended - but I think it's a powerful film.

This is a good movie, very powerful. Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain are both amazing, very good performers. I have seen Jessica in so many movies in very different roles, she always is at her best. Loved the visual effects. Very interesting how the movie ended.

I really wanted to like this. It is like watching a car wreck in slow motion for most of it. I liked that actually. And I think the tension of the movie is created internal to the main character as he tries to fight what is going on so I was ok with that. But I am undecided on the ending so I gave it a seven otherwise it might be an eight for the acting and mood.

This is a very clever movie, beautifully acted with very real characters. The title is even clever, and when you go you are not sure what the movie is about, and thats the part thatis clever, in my opinion it is about mental illness together with a sci-fi background, and thats the clever part, becasue it holds your attention fo 2 hrs and ending is basically what you want it to be. A movie that makes you think throughout. Good job.

Agree with previous poster was also sucked in by trailer and high praise surrounding this film. It was way too long! A very well acted film with a good story premise. However the film just really dragged, it took far too long to get to the punchline. Could have been so much better. If you like the M. Night Shyamalan style of film, you may like this one.

Duped again! I got sucked in by the media hype. It's not near as good as they are advertizing. They called it disturbing and brilliant. Nope; it was slow and boring and not suspenseful at all. Zero character development. It had a few good moments near the end but by that time I wasn't interested in the tortured soul of the protagonist.
