Whistler

I read many negative reviews of this before seeing it, as far as I can tell, they were watching a different movie than I was. I found it quite enjoyable and entertaining. Although I am really getting to hate 3D, especially with CGI, since it increases the price 30% and adds exactly ZERO except an unwanted headache. Lose the 3D, spend more on scripts and actors. There is only a single scene in the movie I would change, that's the silly first ring demo scene to his buddy (which is endlessly used in the trailers and promos) It really sets the wrong tone, and is out of sync with the entire rest of the movie, so of course that was the 30 seconds picked for the trailer... a real mis-step in my view. Story and character were fine, and the evil fear thing gets top marks, I just don't get the bad reviews. I too read this comic as a kid, and I was happy with the results, and enjoyed Ryan Reynolds in the role. So, if you crave some superhero action that is not totally dark and foreboding, with a bit of humor, this is the summer flick for you. Not a 10, but a solid 8.
