This is a true 'homage' to Spielberg, as it hearkens right back to ET. It has the same ascetics, same hair, same lighting. Same sort of plot... well, actually the plot is more a riff on M. Night Shyamalan, who pretty much pulls the same stunt every single movie he makes... in other words - pretty predictable!!! We know the alien isn't 'bad' per se, about half way through the film - it's just ticked off at it's handlers - which is understandable. I really like JJ Abrams. Star Trek was a clear winner, right from the word 'go'. That's why I was looking forward to this film, but it failed me in so many ways, I can only give it a moderate 6 out of ten. If you really like Steven Spielberg, then this movie is for you. If you are looking for something fresh, and offers something new, and unique, you may want to stay away from this.
