Nice to see Germans making movies about the Nazi era, much more nuanced than the ones I grew up with (in Europe) Well done, from beginning to end..

Very good cinéma. Last year, Germany gave us 'Downfall', also then a nominee for best foreign. Sophie Scholl lost to Tsotsi... close call... maybe too close... again?!

This movie made me tremble. I can't remember when I last saw a movie that went under my skin like this one. The director used the original interrogation protocoles for the script and the whole movie is very authentic. It doesn't make use of cheap emotional effects - you feel that what you get is probably very close to the plain truth and that's just enough to go give you a feeling of being slowly strangled. We got so used to the Hollywood cliche of Nazi Germany that I think we all started thinking that it could never happen to us - thus, we forget how fragile values like democracy, liberty and civil rights are and that a civilized country can turn into a terroristic and inhuman regime anytime and anywhere. This movie should be a warning to us all.

Riding home, on bus 24, I couldn't think of anything else than Sophie and her young compatriots, all executed by the NSDAP dictatorship, while defending conscience, truth and personal freedom. Sophie and her brother sacrificed themselves to give the German resistance, die "Weisse Rose", a face, a name. May we not forget them, their final sacrifice, their love of freedom for us all...

Very very good, heartrenching film based on a true cruel story. The acting and directing is nothing less than superb. That story is an inspiration. We should be thankful for people such as Sophie Scholl and others who were involved with the White Rose and dared to do what is right, not what is popular, even at great personal risk. THe film is a must see...

Altough a good movie, I think this theme has been overexloited. Germans need movies such as this one to make them understand how incredibly stupid they were during WW2. We need to see movies with strong themes such as this one, I agree, but for a North American viewer, I think they are many other tragedies that happened in history that we are not focusing on nearly enough.

Finally a movie that shows us that even in the worst of times, people spoke up. A very touching story of a courageous woman during the second world war.

Despite the appearance of the overhead microphone (twice) this was a well-made film focusing on the moral responsibility of the individual. Julia Jentsch's portrayal of Sophie is particularly riveting as she moved from denial to courageous acknowledgment. Gerald Held's portrayal of the detective showed the character's discomfort in his moral position. The battle of wits between Sophie and Detective Mohr was riveting.

A truly unique story within the Nazi Reich which encompasses numerous themes all at once. A story you will not forget.
