It started so beautifully and it had its scary moments but honestly I was big time disappointed with the ending. Although I kinda knew where it was going too.

Wow!! I'm the kind of person who always sees the ending coming in the first 30 minutes into a movie... I really enjoyed this movie because NEVER would I have guessed how it ended... Extremely original!!! It's not a horror movie it's an awesome thriller!

Sucked, the ending is just a retarded dude in a costume. This movie was pretty much advertised to the wrong crowd because many people were expecting a horror movie. Even if this was a horror movie, it would've also sucked.

Incredibly original story... brilliant. For those who find it "slow" and "not scary" - um, that's not the point. It is a fantastic look at the lengths some are willing to go to protect those they love. The acting was outstanding - anyone who thinks some of the acting feels "forced" - well, once you understand the ending, you'll realize why. Overall another brilliant film by M. Night Shyamalan.

Very bad acting and it's not even scary. Don't see it please.

I watched the previews before going to the movie I was excited to be scared but I can honestly say this movie was really bad.

This movie was okay but the little twist at the end of the movie, which usally makes m nigh shamylans movies good, makes this one a bit of a stinker.
| 5/10 | tsferg@ - 87 reviews 20.9.2006 - age: 26-35 |
I was very dissapointed with this movie. I really thought M. Night Shyamalan would have made it a lot better. I hope the next one is. I just really didn't think it was all that scary. It was better in Scary Movie 4.
| 6/10 | spongebob_freak_95@ - 56 reviews 25.8.2006 - age: 1-12 |
I thought this was an overall pretty good movie. I don't think a lot of people like it because they expected it to be like the typical Hollywood horror layout. If someone doesn't get the feeling of "Oh, I know what's going to happen next - I'm so smart.", then they get disappointed and think the movie is a piece of crap. I personally thought that the "twist" at the end was an interesting concept and well thought-out. The movie in itself isn't the scariest film to date, but I thought it was a good thriller. So see this movie if you are ready for something a little out-of-the-box.

This movie was garbage. They built the movie up with so much suspense and fear, and then it turned out that there was nothing there at all. Like they tried to make it a twist ending, but failed misserably.

How can someone not love this film? A real masterpiece! Similar to "The Sixth Sense". The story is incredible, genius... The actors, the music, the photography is fantastic. Why did they announce it as an horror movie. This spoiled the success of this breathtaking movie. For me "The Village" is the movie of the year 2004. A absolute MUST!

I didn't have high expectations because others have warned me that this would be a bad movie, but I was still disappointed. It started out OK, but in the end, it was just ridiculous and I could hardly wait til the movie was over!! The only I found interesting was the story behind "the village" which is why I didn't give this movie a 1. I also don't understand why Joaquin Phoenix's name is the first listed in the credits because he is not even the main character (though it seemed like he was during the first half hour of the movie... ) I rented it on VHS and am just glad I'm not the one who paid because it wasn't even worth it. For those who still want to watch this movie, keep in mind that it is not a horror movie.

Really stupid movie... the village is the saddest movie I've ever seen. NOT EVEN SCARY!. about old people trying to control young people... by inventing some stupid monsters in the woods (the unnamed). PUH lEEZ! really not worth renting lol.

If you like M. Knight you will like The Village. Forget the "misleading Trailer" (How many horror films has he done previously, and how many 12Cert horror films have you seen? ) Instead just watch and appreciate something different. Also, the idea of making a film is to give critics and the public something to talk about after watching. So to all the negative people who hated Signs etc, Why go and see a film by a director/writer that you don't like? So the film has it's desired affect because you are still talking about it!!!

This movie makes you realize that society and human nature can't be changed no matter how hard you try, jeaoulsy as well as many other human emotions will get the better of us.
| 8/10 | cfh_trendkill@ - 487 reviews 13.2.2005 - age: 18-25 |
I just saw this movie on DVD. Having forgotten the trailers and therefore having little expectations, I have to say I loved it. The suspense was good, the score even better. I found it to be a story of love and courage. I also found it very thought provoking as drew parallels with religion and current world events and how people can be manipulated by fear. If you are expecting a horror movie, it is not and you will be disappointed.

(Attention: May contain movie plot) I have just seen this movie on the weekend and I have to say that I was very disappointed with the ending. Mind you I figured out the plot halfway through the movie, especially right after the stabbing, sitting in the rocker, A. Brody was saying "It's my color, it's my color", ( that one clue should have been a dead give away) I think he was the only smart one of the villagers to really play with the people's emotions and take it as far as he did, or when W. Hurt told the elderlies that they cannot live forever and that the children were the future. He also summed it up very well at the end by saying: "He has made our stories a reality". That's what happens when you try to keep some things secret, it blows up in your face. As for Ms. Howard's performance, since she is relatively new in the acting business, I think she gave a wonderful performance. Mind you making us think that a blind person can do anything on her own, I think that was a little far fetched. All in all, not a bad movie.

I really thought this movie had an interesting plot and it truly kept me entertained. If you're looking for a Hollywood blockbuster, look elsewhere... for an interesting and dark storyline you have got to see "The Village.".

Nul, vraiment nul. C'est un film sans saveur. C'est absolument ridicule de faire des faux films d'horreur. Rien ne surprend, rien ne fait peur. À éviter totalement.

I have a lot of respect For M. Night, but this film was definitley lacking, the film I felt was done very well, but It was more a film of morals and etiquette, rather than the usual chillers M, night puts out. If you do go see it, dont be expecting the regular night films, go on a sunday evening looking for a film to lounge to.

I don't care what any of you people say, I loved this movie! It seems that most disagree with me but I love these kind of movies. It had so many awesome twists and turns and unexpected shocks! I mean the setting was superb and it was my first "scary" movie but it is good none the less. I was a little put off by the reviews in the paper myself but I had to see if they were being truthful. When I went I realised at that moment that the papers can sometimes... wait... usually are always wrong when it comes to movies. Its just someones opinion. Anyway GO SEE THE MOVIE!!!

Is utopia possible? This movie provides, at the very least, a springboard for some serious thought. I enjoyed this movie despite its lack of action or suspense. Definitely not for everyone but you could do a lot worse.

I liked it, the twist(s) where fragile and somewhat flawed though, it made me wish for something a bit spookier. However, the village was endowed with such nostalgic innocents and simplistic beauty! And made me wish I could visit it.

The only good part of the movie is the score. Whoever wrote the music was darn good. The directing is far from great... VERY far from great. The production is beyound horrid. The movie was advertised to the wrong audience. The story is rather good, but ripped from a book. I recomend this movie if you don't have to pay for it. If a friend or someone rents it, or if it's on TV. However, I do not recomend if you have to pay. Save your money people. This movie is not what it's advertised as. The movie is about morals and such. The acing is not great either... I couldn't really tell if the girl in the movie was blind or not, and throwing the retarted kid in was kind of random (although he did contribute to the storyline)

Overall, the film is already too good with that unpredictable ending! And I like it! I thought it's really a ghost story where the ghosts REALLY exist but it was about people actually. When people somehow manage to take other people lives, everythng will change for sure! And that's waht happen in this film. I see, many had commented that they hate The Village because they're expecting too much. This is not suppose to be ghost story like Exorsist. This story have an untold story behind it-hate, anger, dissapointment and so on. BUT, I was pretty shocked when I saw something hanging on the actor's head. I thought it was a fly or something but I discovered it's a microphone! Oh, c'mon! Is it supposr to be some kind of bad joke? They should edit it properly! And I salute Adrien Broody for managed to bring that retarded character very well! And it proved you can really act! (you play touching Spzilman in The Pianist, a playboy and a mentally retarded kid!! )bravo! Anyway, I enjoy this movie and I went out the cinema with so much amazement. I can't believe the simple storyline turn out to be the most shocking one!! Well done M. Night Syamalan! I'm looking foward for your next movie! Syuhada.

Another great movie for Shyamalan. I didn't know what to expect, and I was surprised. It is a bit different in my opinion from some of his other movies, but still quite worth a trip to the theatre to watch.

This is a great movie! It is a suspenceful movie that made a few people in the theatre scream! Of course when you found out the secret behind the movie it wasn't as good... but overall you should go see it yourself so that you know that you are one of the people who can give an opinion on it.

As I watched this, I continuously asked myself, where the hell is this movie going? In this case, that was a good thing. Great characters, super intrigue, unexpected twists and a well-chosen cast. It was interesting to see how this stranded society reacted to the myth of the creatures. What could happen if a community of people where completely isolated from the rest of the world? Don't expect horror or fast-paced action. Never mind Sixth Sense, M. Night is on the right track with this one!

I have to say, this was a great movie. It's kind of in the wrong category, because it's not really a thriller - it's really suspenseful, but not scary. I think people didn't like it because they either didn't get the overall plot or couldn't appreciate the underlying issues. I thought this was a terrific and intelligent film.

I didn't "expect" anything. And this allowed me to enjoy the movie with an open mind. I can see how you might be dissapointed if you went with the predetermined idea that this was some scary horror flick. But, it isn't. It's a stunning and unique story, both suspenseful and haunting. I loved it.
