The 3D was the only viewing pleasure to this movie. Why the studio and Scorsese thought the lifestory of George Mieles would make a children's film boggles the mind. Today kids are brought up on hi-tech video games and HUGO is a movie for discerning audience that are not part of the mainstream!! The budget to this self-indulgent film was a whopping $170 million dollars and most likely won't recoup it's budget and will become a write-off. The back-story to Mieles will bore the living daylights out of young kids walking into this film. The executives at the studio who greenlit what is basically a film for a select elitist few should start looking for work elsewhere! This is a $170 million dollar film for film students going to film festivals. This is not a film that can draw big numbers in multiplexes. I can only give it 4 stars for the sets and some nifty 3D effects!
