Elf is a cute movie that adults can enjoy as well. Farrell gives a command performance as an elf searching for his real father in New York City in the form of a ruthless businessman played by James Caan in a great performance. All the predictable laughs are there and there are also nice performances by Bob Newhart as father of the elf and by Ed ASner as Santa Claus. I just couldn't help thinking that it was Lou Grant in a Santa suit. Everything is cliche and predictable but I still liked it. Sometimes it was like a prolonged skit on SNL. I payed 5$ to see it, I don't know if I would have taken it seriously enough to pay 10$.
