The idea was great and it definitely did take me back to my memories of those golden years. The first movie by Rodriguez was everything one would expect from the old grindhouse days, but done just a little bit better than most of the movies that made it to the grindhouses. The shorts were fun and added a lot to the experience. But here my review takes a turn for the worse. Most of Tarantino's movie was frankly, self indulgent tripe. It had nothing to do with the old grindhouse formulas and everything to do with Tarantino trying to out Tarantino himself with the endless, pointless banter that literally goes on for four fifths of the movie. The chase scene was great but that was only 15 minutes of the movie! The rest was so utterly inane as to have me tempted to walk out because I'd rather watch YouTube! And I consider myself a Tarantino fan! This would be nine stars were it not for the four star penalty imposed by Tarantino's drivel.
