While this was a good movie, it was nothing original. Simply a different spin on the common theme of addiction. What I found particularly annoying was how the trailers roped me into thinking this movie was more about a pilot who had a drink rather than a addict who flew a plane. The differences are subtle but watching Capt Whip's life careen out of control for two hours just wasn't as entertaining as I would have liked.

Excellent story, plot, and climax that tells a different story of alcohol and drug use but an amiable and excellent ending.

Although there are a number of potholes in the story and a number of artistic liberties taken by this film, it's still worth seeing. A well directed cast and a good plot, albeit a stretch.

Flight was well done. Characters well developed and very human - faults and flaws not glossed over. Leaves one feeling conflicted, emotionally and ethically... can one be both intrinsically good and amoral simultaneously? Does a positive outcome outweigh irresponsible behavior? Well paced and engaging. Entertaining movie.

Started off with an interesting premise-but the whole junkie, drug and prostitute theme was overbearing. Then try to tie all those issues together with a crash course in religion made it just seem bizarre. I was just trying to get a grasp of just where were they taking this picture for the whole movie made it seem for me to be very odd throughout.

Found it boring and inane. Dragged on and on, thought it started out okay it sunk into the depths of boring very quickly... couldn't even finish watching it.

Powerful movie, powerful acting by Denzel Washington. If I was a substance abuser I'd might feel uncomfortable watching this movie. Scary knowing these people are out there and knowing sometimes other people enable them and all it may take is circumstances to be right for a tragedy to happen.

Would of gave this movie a 7 perhaps. I really didn't understand the need for the naked chick in the 1st scene of the movie? It was literally a blatant use of nudity that added nothing to the story whatsoever... The rest was ok. It's a movie about a struggle with addiction with a plane crash surrounding it.

This is like a "if you drink, don't drive" (or fly for that matter) type of film. More questions are raised as time goes by. The truth will make you come clean. Another great movie by Denzel. Worth my toonie.
| 9/10 | metalandy2000@ - 84 reviews 6.2.2013 - age: 36-49 |
One of the best Denzel movies I have ever seen. He is weak and vulnerable, imperfect, real and raw. The film is very moving and teaches the lesson - "the truth will set you free".

Definitely worth seeing. 2 hrs. of good entertainment. Denzel once again gives another great performance... as do most of the other cast members.

Memorable opening scene. Nadine Velazquez leaves her mark on this film. Overall, an interesting movie, though one has to suspend their disbelief a few times.

I don't know why I thought there would be more action. Pretty decent movie, not my fave of Denzel.

Socially responsible movie for community at large. This movie is teaching us that we must admit our mistake or wrong doing and it also reminded us not to drink and drive or fly (for some individual).

Enjoyed the movie and Denzel did a great job, but not as gut wrenching as Nicholas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas.

Entertaining movie. Great cast and amazing performance by Denzel Washington. A must see!

This movie left me thinking about it a lot even days later. The role that Denzel Washington played as an active alcoholic, eventually coming clean, gave the movie plenty of substance. The crashing portion of movie was tense and exciting!

Good movie, just wish the pacing was a bit faster.

Great acting by all. Best for a mature audience or the over 40 crowd.
| 8/10 | marpic@ - 4 reviews 18.1.2013 - age: 50+ |
Great movie. It has a religious theme that some may not enjoy but it's in the background and not as big a factor in something like The Book of Eli. Not quite sure what would happen until the very end and that was nice.

There should be a rating between 7, 6, and 5, something like," too preachy" or "not preachy enough", or "nobody has ever flown a plane like that, I mean NOBODY... at least not with me in it!"
| 6/10 | idiotwind@ - 17 reviews 14.1.2013 - age: 50+ |
Loved the acting. I would give this movie more of a 7.5. Loved the female lead, she was excellent. The plane scenes were great. I liked the story.

I really enjoyed this movie; Denzil is a favourite of mine and he did a great job playing his character!
| 8/10 | leannefh@ - 10 reviews 8.1.2013 - age: 36-49 |
I wanted to see it for the cast mainly and thought it was about the flight and the crash. There was no mention in the trailer's about the addiction problem's that it really focused on. Totally not what I wanted to see or thought I was going to see and really disappointed by that.

This movie is not what I expected. I thought there would be suspense, but all it is, is a billboard for Alcoholic Anonymous. If I knew the movie would be all about drinking, I would not have waste my money. The bow-legged girl nude scene was also unnecessary.
| 5/10 | tweetie@ - first review 3.1.2013 - age: 26-35 |
Well done! Not what I expected with a nice twist at the end.
| 7/10 | vibratone@ - 35 reviews 3.1.2013 - age: 36-49 |
Too predictable and typically Hollywood: the crime, the confession, the punishment.
| 2/10 | bluffocean42@ - 2 reviews 2.1.2013 - age: 26-35 |

| 8/10 | bobbybear@ - 3 reviews 1.1.2013 - age: 36-49 |
Entertaining movie that also had an interesting look into addiction and the effects on all its victims. Acting was good and the storyline was interesting from beginning to end.
| 8/10 | miranda@ - 19 reviews 31.12.2012 - age: 26-35 |
I went to see the movie with the expectation to see how an airline company finds out, after a plane crash, what really happened that made the plane lose its parts one by one until it crashes. I expected something more scientific and technical, especially when you get the impression, during the flight, that the pilot was very much in control, did not panic, had excellent skills and succeeded landing with limited loss of life. If the movie is based on a real story, then it was worth making it. But if the subject of the movie is alcoholism, they could have chosen a DIFFERENT FLIGHT (I mean without technical problems from the plane itself) Not very convincing. I am also disappointed in Denzel Washington; he is always HIMSELF, does not become almost not recognizable in his roles, like Sean Penn or Daniel D-Lewis, or even Leonardo Di Caprio.

Not a bad movie. Lots of talking and I found it a little draggy but interesting though.

After Flight, James Bond was really boring! Flight is an astonishing tale of "Lost & Found"

This movie took me by surprise. I expected it to be good just because I love Denzil but it was not what I expected. Denzil goes through many emotions in this film and the storyline is interesting and draws you in. I haven't been too impressed with Hollywood as of late but admit this was a good film.

Nothing can be further from the truth, this could never happen... I work in the aviation industry, this is an insult to all the pilots out there.

This was a very good movie. Excellent depiction of the roller coaster ride of life with addiction. Choices, options, and finding a way through it. Resiliency of the human spirit is always good to see.

| 9/10 | mghines1989@ - 5 reviews 16.12.2012 - age: 18-25 |
I love Denzel movies. Always know that his films involve an intelligent moral dilemma for the hero. He always comes thru as the hero with a soul. It's what makes his movie choices so great. This movie spent way too much time on the plane crash without letting the audience in on what happens next. In university film class lingo - there was a whole lot of "set-up" and not enough "payoff" to go with it.
| 5/10 | sara@ - 6 reviews 15.12.2012 - age: 50+ |
I am an Airline Pilot for a living and have been a Pilot for 30 years. Movies never get Airline scenes right, so my expectations were not high. Neither Pilot in the movie comes close to your average Pilot personality and the fact that Washington's character has not been taken off the "line" and put through a rehab program or fired is not realistic. Lastly Pilots and Flight attendants don't even hang out together and as a group don't dislike each other, but don't like each other in general terms. Having said all this, I still liked the movie! It is a great story about addiction, life and coming to terms with our own inner conflicts. Washington is one of those few gifted actors and he does an amazing job in his role. It's well worth seeing and the actual technical failure is based on real case scenarios of stress fatigue failures through screw jacks on the Horizontal stabilzer on T tail aircraft. It's a cool scene whoever you are. I would give the movie between 7 to 8 , just not quite an 8 rating but it's definitely a good flick. Well worth seeing.

It was just okay in my opinion. You really have to appreciate the ordeal with addiction that the lead character has because this is the entire premise of the movie. There is nothing more to it really. You follow him throughout the movie and witness how his addiction has afflicted him up to his breaking point. It didn't really do it for me, but the group I went with really liked it.

Best movie I've seen in a long time. Really makes you question your morality and also how easily we tend to judge people without really considering their humanity. I do agree with other posters that the overlong nudity scene at the start of the movie was totally unnecessary and the movie's only weak point.
| 9/10 | coocoosnest78@ - 40 reviews 12.12.2012 - age: 26-35 |
It's a scenario that we didn't see a lot of time, it's pretty original and realistic. Sometime, it will maybe be boring but still interesting. Side of the actors, the principal actor who played the pilot was good and we understood the emotion that he was having. The actor who played the co-pilot was maybe too much stereotyped and that spoiled the truth of the drama but in general, they were all pretty good. The soundtrack was good, we had some goods and captivating songs. The only problem is that sometime, we just add to much drama with the music for how dramatic the scene was. For summarize, I recommend it. Maybe, at some parts, the producer was too much taking his time but in general it's a good movie.

This is a spectacular film starring Denzel Washington. A brilliant job of acting by the whole cast but especially Denzel, who is solid and commands the big screen like a sandbox. He will no doubt get some Oscars for his brilliant portrayal of the pilot. Bravo!

Great performance from Denzel, as always. A movie touching on the impact that addiction has on a person, families, and so on. A very good film.
