Critics are slamming this flick because of a few little problems. 1) It's really implausible. 2) Some of the dialogue is really corny. 3) The extras are not instructed well (WHO CARES!) For the people that actually pay to see movies, it's very entertaining. Since when does every movie have to be a frickin' Gone With the Wind? John Q was a fun movie that gets you thinking about a lot of sociological issues, health care in the US being just one of them. It gets a little out of hand by the end, and Robert Duvall does play a guy named Frank Grimes, who, for all you Simpsons lovers out there, is also known as Homer's enemy. Coincidence? Probably. Oh yeah, and the most beautiful woman in the world, Laura Harring of Mulholland Drive fame, has a bit part. Worth the price of admission just to see her for two minutes.
