I was looking forward to this. I knew that it would a cerebral thinking movie like Shutter Island... but honestly I could not get engaged. It was reminded me of Tom Hanks in Demons and whatever. Every other scene was a dialog to "explain" things to the audience. In this movie the brunette was the foil... She would ask the dumb question and Di Caprio would explain it to her. Typically she would say something like, "So if I die in a dream do I die in real life? "... or "If I think this movie stinks is it real or a dream" Dicaprio answers, "well this movie is a money cow so we can't criticize it." But if I dream that this movie sucks... does it really suck..? Well missie... you will die but not in real life..." But if I die in a dream will they still validate my parking at AGM?.. This movie in my view, was not very clever. It merely added dialog to obfuscate the audience. The action was good for an action movie. The special effects were fine... But it wasn't truly a deep thinking movie. Confusion was added but in my view it cannot compare to recent movies like Shutter Island or the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo... The difference was essentially that in the two I mentioned that the audience has a chance to figure things out by logic. This movie just ad-libbed the process. We were never given a fair chance to unfold the mystery. I love riddles but this movie just added random twists with no purpose... throughout. I just waited for the dumb female to ask a question and listen to the answer. I left shortly before it ended because I sensed that the ending would be one further distraction.
