Since it was my birthday, my girlfriend gave me a choice as to which movie I wanted to see. She handed me $20 and said "Surprise me." It was either Murder By Numbers or Jason X as I had already seen all the other movies or they had already started. So, knowing she was not at all interested in Murder By Numbers, which I wanted to see, I did the considerate thing and took two tickets for Jason X. Well, twenty minutes into that, she realized she didn't like it, so we switched movies to Murder By Numbers, which thankfully started 25 minutes after Jason. Honestly, from what I saw of Jason X, I think I would have preferred it to this unspectacular, slow, drawn-out, predictable attempt at a thriller. Sandra Bullock and Ryan Gosling gave above average performances, but the movie went nowhere. Think of it as The Good Son meets Seven, although nowhere near as good as either. It was not terrible, but not good either. It barely passes. Oh and by the way, the title is applicable in two ways: 1) Murder By Numbers refers to the cold, methodical calculation by which the killers committed their crime. 2) If you'll notice, when Sandra Bullock investigates a crime scene, she drops little yellow numbered tags at specific locations, either to mark a footwear impression or a puddle of vomit; the title could refer to the methodical way she solves the crime. So yes, folks, the title does make sense.
