Have you seen Panic Room? If you have, then this can only be a grand letdown. If you haven't, rent Panic Room. It's a far better movie that was ripped off mercilessly by the geniuses who put this joke together. Hostage is a story about a highly unlikely coincidence that pits Bruce Willis against two sets of foes: a trio of punk teenagers and a gang of organized, hardened criminals. The story is contrived and basically stupid. The characters are not worth give two plops about, with the exception of the two Smith kids. I found it hard caring about Bruce's own daughter because when we did see her, she was behaving like a whiny spoiled brat. There's only one thing that saves this movie from being a real disaster: it's actually a lot less boring than it could have been. I wouldn't say it was fun, but it kept me awake all the way through, and if you know me, you'll know that that's a feat in itself.
