A few funny scenes can't save the disjointed Hot Rod, which is too silly and sloppy to hold up. But you'll still get a nice chunk of great laughs so it's not a total disaster. Just a very empty film. Wedding Crashers' lovely Isla Fisher is the eye-candy and her looks alone deliver in that respect. But she's not much of an actress and doesn't push the envelope at all in a very phone-in performance. One criticism of the movie that I don't feel is fair is those that are saying that SNL-populated movies have a very annoying club-feel to the humour. I feel that actually adds ALOT to the movie and is often what is funniest about SNL, how well the comedians know each other. For instance, one of the funniest scenes is just when one actor is body-checking another into a van. Those that hated the movie didn't notice all the nods to various 80's teen movies as well, which I picked up on in spades. The movie feels almost like a collection of 4-star YouTube videos. Which makes for a very disjointed movie but remains an entertaining one. Lots of laughs. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone except some of my close friends that I know share the exact same sense of humour as me.
