How does one rate a movie on a thing like this. Really! All I can say is the movie was well made and heartfelt amongst other things. Very Sad about what actually took place. May all those souls rest in peace.

A very well made movie, very realistic in its depiction of this catastrophe, an emotionally-driven movie with incredible acting. Glad to have seen it.

This movie is aptly named because the odds of this happening are astronomical at best, and yet it is a true story. The tsunami in Asia killed over 200,000 people, yet a family on the waterfront finds a way to survive. This story is a real tear-jerker and well-acted (even the kids) My favorite part of this movie, other than the long awaited sappy ending, was the flood scene: they did a remarkable job showing the intensity and futility of being in a tsunami. A good movie for watching at home with a good bowl of Redenbacher.

Excellent movie about a true history, good acting, definitely go see it.

For a true story, it was totally unbelievable. Without giving away the ending, I can't say more. After watching this movie, I checked online to see if the producers took liberties for sensationalism. Nope. They didn't. Their re-creation of the tsunami was phenomenal. That in itself was worth the cost of the movie.

What a brilliant movie!! Despite I can understand the bad criticisms, I really enjoyed seeing this movie. Of course it rather focuses on one family literally torn apart through this dramatic and devastating event, but that was exactly the main core of the movie. If we spend two minutes comparing this one with «2012» or «Independence Day», which are big Blockbusters comprising only great special effects, it really stands out by recreating the intense and realistic emotions of the family and the local people living around. This one is highly truthful, concentrates more on demonstrating the real pain upon this infamous and natural disaster, and faithful to a real happened history. This is a harrowing film about the strength of human survival, common struggle to recover from this unexpected and sudden event, and filled with a touchable dose of humanity conveyed everywhere. In this context, it was really inspirational to see people unconditionally helping each other, telling you what really matters upon such tragedy, and just for that it's totally worth seeing this film. In addition, it was sometimes hard to watch given the realism of what people have gone through, and I got tears falling from my eyes all the movie long. The performances were also completely incredible, up to outstanding, and thus even greater than what I bargained for; the special effects were even frightening given their truthfulness (not too much, but just enough) Of course, I also felt a punch missing from this, but it didn't matter cause the story was already known. Finally, some people would say that it is a tad overly sentimental and raw, but according to me, it is exactly the point of the film, and I loved it, and thus I was satisfied after turning off the TV.

I'm a big fan of "disaster" movies. This was not what I expected. It was close up, emotional dialogue on the after effects of the tsunami on one family. Very emotional all the way through. I too would have liked this to be broader in scope - see more local influence. They're the ones who have to deal with this day to day. I was amazed at the ending, where Mom goes from barely alive to smiling in an airplane and legs intact. You inhale that deadly water, you don't usually come out so well. I was also disappointed to see the family get such special treatment as they left the area - would a private, partially full airplane really leave that area, when so many needed to be airlifted out? Still - a moving film.

Touching story of a story that lived through the Tsunami in Thailand in 2004. The adult actors are credible and the boys play well. Good special effects. Somehow though, I felt there is a punch missing from this. Doesn't tell me something I don't know already.

Fantastic movie that will leave you emotionally drained. The special effects are amazing and the acting brilliant. Tom Holland as Lucas should have been nominated for an Academy award. The movie still affects me weeks later!

Excellent film. Naomi Watts incredible, as well as Ewan McGregor and the actors that played the children. It definitely brought tears to our eyes, but I was into it right from the beginning until the end. Go see this movie! Support good films!

A very well done film. Special effects are superb! I don't know how they made the storm? This is amazing technology at its best. A story that will warm your heart about love and families.

Beautiful movie, incredible performances. Hard to watch at times because it is so realistic. This is one of the best movies of the year. Just wish they showed a bit more how the tsunami affected the local people as well. It is a story about one family, and luckily there is a happy ending.

Excellent film. I was very impressed at how the hospital/medical care was given during a disaster and how kind and giving the thai people were to strangers. A very inspiring film.

A very sad but well written story and full of frantic action. The child actors are excellent. I loved the special effects. One can appreciate the power of Mother Nature's forces here.

This is a heart wrenching movie about a family who is torn apart when a tsunami strikes the resort without warning. The movie really moved me in a way I did not expect. At times, it was hard to watch. This movie is truly excellent. It is a must see.

It was a movie about a Tsunami. Expect to be miserable throughout. You get a nice shot of Watts' breast, tastefully done of course. I didn't think it was enough material for a movie. Watch it if you're miserable and need company.

Seeing this yesterday was a wonderful experience. The unbelievable strength and sense of survival and love shows through with this family during this Tsunami!!! And seeing how human beings help each other in such catastrophes gives one hope of humanity, the wish to show caring and assistance when and where needed. A masterpiece worth seeing!!! Recommend to all!!!

An amazing film, shocking story. The under water scenes were particularly staggering for me, all the debris under the water, battering the human body around makes it nothing short of miraculous that anyone survived at all. Watts gave an outstanding performance, I was brought to tears a few times during the film thinking about the incredible scale of this human tragedy. Great film.

A well crafted movie with a strong performance from Niaomi Watts and the supporting cast. The director does an outstanding job of pulling you into the relentless horrors of their experience. Just one of so many tragic stories that occurred that day and in the days to follow. I'm so glad they found each other and got home.

The Impossible, this movie was the best, because the movie presented explains [how] one family traveled in Thailand. They all survive often and after the tsunami. I liked the film, because it was very moving with tsunami (2004) in Thailand. The Impossible was a movie for resented our feeling, because a song on the movie. My negative criticism is that the wave came suddenly, but the water was not removed on the beach. Another reason he doesn't have a cash to make a wave. Also, this movie was very good, in addition was made the British.

This is the best movie I have seen in a long time. I was riveted from beginning to end. The acting of the eldest son was amazing, he is a young man to watch. My partner found the movie to be a bit harrowing, and says that the next movie we see will be a comedy... but I found it to be inspirational and unforgettable.

Ewan McGregor is a huge disappointment, his acting is so bad he quite possible ruined the movie. The music is as bad as Mr. McGregor. If not for Naomi Watts and the kids the movie would have been a 0. One thing though the movie made me feel happy to just stay home and shovel snow.

After the first fifteen minutes, you sit there wondering what to do for the rest of the film, because you know exactly how it's going to turn out. Should you get more popcorn? Soda? Should you check your email? Me, I passed the time by reading email in the bathroom. I didn't miss anything, according to my companion. The music is utterly nauseating, acting is even more so.

Recreates the intense emotions of that day so well. The cinematography is outstanding and the effects are seamless with the live shooting. A heart-wrenching true story with superb acting by Naomi Watts and Tom Holland (as mom and son) We were completely impressed, despite some of small flaws cited by others.

This movie is human compassion at it's best. Let it move you to see what's real in this life, & what is not. A truly teachable moment, not to be underestimate.

This is a good movie, and worth seeing, but at the same time I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. We cried through the majority of the movie and at one point, it was so horrendous that I had to leave the theatre because I felt ill. I want movies to make me feel deeply but this went too far. Of course, it's a true story, so how can I complain, but there are times when a director needs to realize that he/she has made his/her point and know when to cut away.
