The movie 'V/H/S' tries to create the same magic that 'The Blair-Witch Project' brought to big screens in the late 90's by reintroducing the amatuer home video-type of cinematography. A series short-stories of graphic murders wrapped around a half-baked story muddled by lack of originality and a constance of desperate attempts to be extreme. The movie does make you cringe a bit from 'shock-value', and not conceptual or provocative ideas, then fills in the gaping void with nudity and violence and labels itself a cult classic. This movie is supposed to be a big coming-out party for lots of 'hot' new/up-and-coming horror directors/writers. Yet, with the insufficient time to build a story, these short-stories are shamefully forced to become nothing more than torture-porn that's so close to being 'smut' itself. Truly one of the most awful movies I've ever seen. And the worst part is: I watched this movie with no synopsis available or warning against what I was about to see. So much for random movie days... Avoid at all costs.

This is a great example of how a movie with some imagination and originality can be quite fun and scary. No need for a big budget or special effects here. I found this to be a different twist on horror films with its 5 short stories and low budget, scratchy feel. I was hooked by the first story with its succubus antagonist. Most of the other stories are very good. Yes, the acting is somethings suspect and the camera can be shaky at times, and some of the characters are douchebags (purposefully), but overall I really thought this was one of the most original and scary films I've seen in a few years. Give me this any day over yet another Hollywood horror remake - Carrie, really!

This is an awful movie and I'm so disappointed because I really wanted to enjoy it. After hearing about how some people fainted at screenings or had to hit pause countless times because they were so scared - I thought I found something good. Ends up it's a horrible mess, bunch of nonsense stories pieced up together like an amateur experiment. None of the stories tie in together, none of it is good enough to evoke a jump out of me. It only managed to make me frown because of some gore. Overhyped, awful. AVOID.

As an anthology of short horror stories all contained within a big one. It reminds me of Trick N' Treat - no, not the 80's one with Skip from family ties- but the 2007 one. The scare does grab your interest and keeps you wondering what will happen while some do manage to make you jump or flinch. Fans of horror movies and people who love to be scared will probably like this movie for what it is, A simple horror movie back the haydays of early 80's and the love of horror without the glitz and glamour of today's hollywood standard. Make sure you press pause if you're too scared to watch!!
