All one needs to do here is sit back and enjoy the antics of the 3 leading men as over-the-hill gangsters. Al Pacino (he of the great hooded eyes)is still one of the most fascinating actors to watch as he steals scenes like a master criminal. There are some very comely ladies, as well (Vanessa Ferlito, Katherine Winnick) Lucy Punch is a hoot as a dazed and dosey madame. Funny, and without all the over-the-top gore of a Terrantino flick. Directed by former actor Fissher Stevens.

Slower pace than most these days but with such great actors its worth the time and $.

I just liked it... light humor, not too emphasized. A different way of acting by Al Pacino and Christopher Walken. Nice comedy, once you do not expect high drama tones or high comedy tones. Simple... and funny in a light way.

A few small glimmers of humour do not make this an entertaining movie."Shall we kick some ass, or chew gum? " will be a resounding cliche for us oldies who are used to much more from these three talented actors.

I liked this movie a lot. Sure, it was a bit predictable in places but then again so is life, which ultimately is what this film is about. It's a good story about three guys who've been together a long time, the memories they share, the bond they have, the way they lived their lives, made their choices, and of course, all the baggage and regrets - and joys - that go with the territory. They reconnect for one last night on the town, but what starts predictably enough ends on a wholly different note altogether when past meets future then careens off into the inevitable future. Stand Up Guys is a cozy film, a small film with a big heart and some interesting twists. It's well worth going to see.

Excellent acting, great script, good story, what a good movie is all about.

It was a refreshing movie showing the last days of old time bad guys. It has some bad writing or cliche bad acting in the beginning, but they warm up and the 2 great actors shine through with warmth and charisma that they have built up throughout their careers.

We went to see Pacino and Walken and they were great in a very poor movie, which was slow and predictable with a typical car chase and a lot of gunfire!! It was a real letdown and we actually took turns dozing off... but we look forward to seeing Side Effects today and we know it will be a winner! You can't win 'em all...

This was not a movie for everyone. It might appeal to an older crowd. The acting was excellent as you would expect from this cast. It is not a big screen movie so you can wait for the TV version. This movie was a good glimpse into what life might be like for a surviving wise guy in late life. Sad actually, but then there wasn't likely an expectation of survival to begin with.

"It's time to kick ass or chew bubble gum - guess what am out of gum" quotes like these and many others makes this fun. The Story is about Val (Al Pacino) who has served 28 years in jail comes out to enjoy what is left with his old buddies. Someone else is waiting for him too... won't say more. The movie is an acceptable action/comedy/drama but has no depth in the story.

I hated it but I liked it at the same time. It was dragging a lot. The plot is pointless, and the ending is well I can't even explain it. Predictable? Pacino is the only reason why I saw the movie. I expected more from him. Not really worth seeing in theatres.

Considering the excellent cast, (particularly Pacino and Walken) this movie was a disappointment. Extremely slow-paced for the first 45 minutes. I kept wondering if/when something was going to transpire, and wondered if my companion was as unmoved as I was, since seeing it had been my idea. It seemed that parts were totally unscripted, and the actors simply "did their own thing" with little or no direction. Even on a brutally cold, miserable day, it did little to provoke further thought -- totally unmemorable.

There's not much to say, really. It's a joy to watch Walken and Pacino. Arkin is the same in every movie, never been a fan. The plot is dumb and pointless, and the ending is bad, but still, it's Walken and Pacino. See it on dvd, if you can find a place to rent them.

I don't know if it's a 4 or a 5. The plot deserves a 1!! But because it has such a great cast (both Al's and Christopher) The script was so bad, they really didn't have anything to work with. Watch it if it's playing on a flight or on cable.

Ok. I never comment on these things but I just returned from seeing this movie and feel the overwhelming urge to write a review about it to save you the money and aggravation. I was hopeful that a movie about some senior ex-mobsters, who are played by infamous mobster actors, would have some very interesting dialogue and scenes. The storyline is there, but the writers and the director totally missed the mark. Within the first 2 mins, my co-movie goer and I looked at each other and said "I think this is going to be bad". The actors looked like they were trying to squeeze every bit of life out of the bland screenplay, but even the most seasoned actors couldn't save it. Regurgitated lines, slow delivery, bad editing, misplaced score, unrealistic suspension of belief and well, just bad. I really do love Christopher and Al, always have. It's just a shame that it is obvious that they accepted this screenplay for the money. If you REALLY want to see it, wait until you can steal it online because believe me when I say, after 2 mins you will stop it and put on Scarface just so you can cleanse your mobster palette and gorge yourself on a proper gangster movie.

This is NOT a comedy, nor is it a "gangster flick"; rather it's a movie about life, death, regrets, triumphs, friendship and the importance of family. It starts out slowly but gathers momentum as it draws the viewer into the lives of the principal characters. Pacino and Walken were good in their roles, but a supporting cast -- featuring several incredibly beautiful and talented new actresses -- really made the movie as truly moving as it is. The performance of the actress who plays "Alex" was alone worth the price of admission. "Today became tomorrow..." "It usually does." Yes, but it won't do so forever; we grow old and die. In the meantime, perhaps the best we can do is "to be useful to others" as Alan Arkin's character opined. The young and the old will like this film best; middle-aged people are too busy making their plans to realize that "life is what happens while you're busy making other plans." So is death.
