Don't miss the opening scene - absolutely riveting, powerful! And, it was a perfect mood setter for this story of a small isolated community in a chaotic land. By turns quaint, touching, and always with a threat of total disaster! The friendship of the clerics was a nice touch. Realistic? They trusted the women's determination to stop discord and war. Inspiring! Their trickery was a nice surprise.

A tribute to "infinite possibilities" to solve a problem, a tribute to the power of the individual. A tribute to the necessity of man and woman to make a meaningful whole. Well done, Village life seems "real." Beautiful, poignant scenes. Well-placed humor and song even amidst tragedy. Should be "required viewing" for any who care about the world community and humanity in general.

I almost cried... A brilliant mix of tragedy and comedy, Nadeen Libky is an Arab Fellini.
| 10/10 | chairman@ - 9 reviews 22.7.2012 - age: 50+ |
I don't understanding the good reviews for this film. The film seems to not know what it wants to be (comedy? musical? drama?) and never achieves the right tone thus leaving this a confused, muddled mess. The ability to meld different themes flawlessly rests on the shoulders of the script and the director. In this film both were lacking in focus and direction. Terribly overrated film.

This is a boring and stupid film. I regret even going in the first place. Can I get my $$$ back?

I saw this movie more than 5 times and it made me cry every time I see it. I love this movie because it puts the light on a very sensitive subject that cause Lebanon 20 years of war. As a Syrian and coming from a place where this problem is happening this movie makes me ask God every night to send us a miracle to safe our homeland from a huge civil war.

Wow, that's a really great movie! Extremely funny and dramatic.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why people are rating this film so high. It must be some kind of support for the director and the language of the film. However, if people would rate this flic on its own merit, it would score much lower. It has a weak story and nothing redeeming at all.
| 2/10 | boykoryan@ - 72 reviews 15.7.2012 - age: 26-35 |
Horrible and boring film. What a BIG I made to choose to see this trashy flic. Once fooled, twice... I'll remember the director very well.
| 1/10 | noufnouf1@ - 32 reviews 15.7.2012 - age: 50+ |
This is by far the absolute worst flic I have seen this year and I felt ripped off by the filmmakers and cinema. This is a dog dressed up as a doll, no better.

GAWD awful film. I was so disappointed with the story and it dragged on 4 ever. Give me a break?! This is crap and no excuses for it either.

The movie is very slow, story boring as hell, I guess it is only lebanese people who highly rated this movie as sign of patriotism, but honestly... I regret watching this non sense.

A gem of a movie - unlike the small taste that one gets from the trailer. The movie is filled with so many comedic lines and episodes, that I would have to see it again to fully soak in all the smart lines and innuendos. There are also tragic events and a deep human suffering and anguish in this film that bites into the core of our being. The opening scene is a beautifully choreographed movement - dance, exquisite, that sets the scene for a film that never strays from being totally absorbing. The music segments are wonderful. The script is splendid. This is indeed a superior movie.

I can't say but Excellent movie, from the story to the acting, to the music and songs... BRAVooo to Nadine Labaki and the whole team and actors!

Nadine Labaki shines a contrasty torchlight on the subject of war and religion in the middle-east. Her humor doesn't belittle the subject, but her solution to the conflict definitely causes to think about the possibility of solutions in general and the absurdity of wars led by a handful of angry men. Is the solution to wars a feminine approach? This movie seems to prescribe it. I laughed and I had my heart wrenched.

A very powerful and inspiring movie with an excellent script about the religion issue in Middle East. Director Nadine Labaki succeeded in treating a sensitive topic in a very funny but touching way. I truly recommend everybody to see it.

I usually avoid movies that have won various awards - bit like the Emperor has no clothes. However, this one was wonderful - powerful story and terrific acting. Tragic and yet light touch with comedy. Nice to see something original.

| 10/10 | nabican74@ - 30 reviews 9.6.2012 - age: 36-49 |
All the elements of a great movie!! Well done. The humor mixed with the sadness imposed on people by religion is engaging from the start to the end. The message is simple and clear: religion is just a facade, deep inside we are all the same! Loved how it shows people can be so kind yet blinded by evil at the same time.
| 10/10 | galeena1@ - 6 reviews 9.6.2012 - age: 36-49 |
This is really a great movie! It makes you laugh and cry interchangeably! Loved every minute!
| 10/10 | tazm@ - 5 reviews 8.6.2012 - age: 26-35 |
This director has quite a flair for engaging intelligent films (her first one was also a joy) Politics and religion lurk underneath this humourous look at life in a Lebanese village, with both Christians and Muslims getting along fine as long as no outside news reaches them. The village's women are the saving grace here, preventing their men from engaging in war. Films don't have to be heavy-handed to get the message across--this one does it with style and humour.

Really funny and intriguing movie; the women do everything possible to make their men ( father, son, brother) stop the war and try to live peacefully; they even dare to stone them to find their hidden weapons; the actors are excellent... specially the women... the scenery is not bad.

Simply amazing! In a time when unique story telling is rare and Hollywood is dominated by useless and powerless movies, it's so refreshing to see something worth our time and attention. I highly recommend this movie, let's support true movie making like it's intended.
| 10/10 | mona.a@ - 2 reviews 7.6.2012 - age: 26-35 |
Excellent movie! It is extremely well done, especially knowing that the actors aren't professionals! It captures the essence of the main problem in Lebanon while still making you laugh with the hilarious stunts the woman of the village pull off --all to keep the peace. Go see it!

This was such an authentic piece of work. It just brings you in and keeps you there, like you are a part of it. Great Humour in tragedy and terrible circumstance. The cast is tops! Looking forward to finding more of Nadine Labaki's work now that I've seen this movie.
