Drive is for me like a classic Hollywood movie, where all the real comes on screen, The long shots were amazing, the background music and the element of silence and very relaxing tone of the movie were amazing. This film by director Nicolas Winding Refn is not like any other race type film. The cinematography was really well done. I really enjoyed the movie because it delivered lots of emotions, element of surprise. One thing unique is also the sound of the mustang during the chase; loud engine sound; very clever by Refn. One of the reason why this movie did great is the long shots. When Ryan replying to the guy at the coffee shop (he didn't even blink his eyes; that was amazing) Also, the beginning was unique, when the cop stopped at the light. At the end, when Ryan stabbed the vilain, these long shots were very well-performed. I give this movie an 8 because it deserves good credit because of its uniqueness. Worth watching! Ps. I go to the movies twice a week if not once a week, and I really love watching a movie that has a good script and reveals a message that increases our knowledge. [...]

Drive is the best movie of 2011. I wish more people went to see this in theaters. This is an Art house movie that I would not recommend to an action fan. This movie deserved better.

I was really into the movie for the first half. I thought it was a bit slow, but was able to enjoy it. The second half was completely ridiculous. The plot gets out of hands and doesn't make any sense. And the musical choices are bad as well... Hated Ryan Gosling's acting too... Not a role for him... I would not recommend this movie to anyone.

This was actually a pretty good movie. Was skeptical at first but proved to be a good one.

A mystery man played by Gosling says a lot without saying much at all. A good story with an excellent soundtrack. Mulligan seemed out of place in this one.

If you like Jim Jarmusch, Cohen Brothers, you may just appreciate the black humour and far flung urban fantasy in this unique film. Not overly cerebral, but sufficiently kooky and charming for those that like oddball movies.

One of those movies that critics love for the experimental, artistic values but not enjoyable to general public. Predictable, boring storyline with no twist or surprise, cheesy lines. Even the soundtrack and music in the movie was bad. Some people praise the action scenes saying it was so raw and brutal. Yes the actions were indeed very good but it wasn't anything new. The action scenes took about 5 minutes of the entire movie, rest of the movie was dreadful. Why endure 1.5hours of horrid movie for a good 5 minutes when you can watch any other good action flick that have similar or better action scenes? Worst movie I have seen in 5 years. I'm sorry for being so mean but I can't help that I felt it was absolutely horrible and dreadful to the point when I came across this movie's rating being 6.5 out of 10, I felt the need go out of my way to let others know how bad this movie was.

Amazing. One of the best movies of 2011 or even that I've ever seen. The whole thing just moved me throughout. The fact that is was kind of a "silent" film made it so much more sophisticated. I watched this movie online just because I'm a huge Ryan Gosling fan but I never expected it to be so well done. I'm never into movies with this much violence but it was put together so brilliantly with an incredible soundtrack. Ryan Gosling is just perfect in this and should have gotten much more recognition for his acting. If you haven't seen this yet, you are missing out.

This is a great film. It isn't a typical "hollywood movie" and that is what makes it great. If you can't appreciate the silent moments in the film I feel sorry for you.

I liked the casting, good jobs by all. Albert Brooks fine in a velvet hammer role. Gosling simmers along, and Carey Mulligan sells her bit, the script leaves them too empty tho'.. Many holes in plot the long calculated pauses gave time to explore the gaps. Had more pace than "The American" , or Warhol's "Sleep", but not a barn burner. Film Noir and trying hard.

It is rare that a movie brings so many emotions out of me. This is not an action flic for everyone, this is more of a dark, slow, twisted movie. You should not expect "the fast and the furious" but a more into the waters of : pulp fiction meets tree of life.

Saw the movie when it first came out. Did not read any reviews about it, but put my trust into the one and only rottentomatoes website. This movie was exactly how I imagined it would be, a perfection of movie making. This was not about any action or neither any racing parts. This movie is simply a well thought, scenery film. The acting of Ryan Gosling (the driver) never disappointed me, and especially not in this movie. Many silent scenes, which are not there to boredom you if looked at closely, shape the main characters personallity. This movie gets you thinking, especially during the scenes that are viewed as "should be cut outs". Nicolas Winding Refn directed this brilliantly. I would highly recommend watching this movie, despite all the negative reviews I have noticed here. Walk into this movie with an open mind, and not with an expectation of a fast and furious repeat. Brilliant scenes in this one and it is definitely one of the best in 2011.

Wow, I was surprised at the flick. It really wasn't what I was expecting. It reminded me a lot of the flicks from the 70s and early, early 1980s. Ever seen Thief with James Caan or Bruce Dern and Ryan O'neal in The Driver? I will keep it vague as I won't spoil it for you. A hot movie. James.

It was not what I expected. Guess relied on comments of a tv guy who liked it. It was way too slow. Many silent moments. Very, very graphic killings, not for my liking. Glad I watched it at home and did not spend time going to movies, as originally planned.

After all of the great things that were said about this movie, I really expected something good - this movie was just awful... characters that didn't speak, and maybe 2 good driving scenes - sucked -- you should spend your time watching something better.

Huge disappointment. It is NOT an action movie by any means, the only action you will get is what was shown in the trailer. It could've been a 60 min movie if they would cut out all the painfully awkward scenes of characters starring at each other. Some may like it, definitely, but for sure the movie is not what you would expect from the trailer.

Awesome! Some may not like the violence, but most of the theatre laughed through them... Good dude flick.

This one feels like a movie with an identity crisis. It's like an action movie without the action, an arthouse piece that wants to fit in with the Hollywood crowd. Ryan Gosling's character is so awkward it hurts to watch, seeming at times like he's almost autistic savante. Carey Mulligan is the only really good part, showing off a great American accent and playing the part of a downtrodden single mom to a tee.

I can understand many of the negative comments found on this website regarding Drive, but I absolutely cannot agree with them. Within 5 minutes, the aesthetic and tone of the movie had me excited. The long beautiful cinematic scenes filled with absolutely no dialogue set up a tension which made later scenes have more impact than anything I've seen in theaters for a long time. I'm a huge action-movie fan, and whether this was or wasn't an action movie, I'm convinced it will have a long lasting impact on every good action movie in the future. If you consider yourself to be knowledgeable and have a love for film, go see this movie. If not, I think Jack and Jill is still playing somewhere...

One of the best films I've seen this year. Deeply stylistic and atmospheric film, in parts almost ethereal despite being punctuated with scenes of graphic and brutal violence. Ryan Gosling gives one of the most understated and hypnotic performances I've ever seen, completely dominating the screen with his unsettling portrayal of the nameless Driver. I actually found this movie Shakespearean in its structure, its character studies and its dark exploration of ambition, greed and revenge.

Masterpiece. This noir movie is so intensive and incredible!! The director took the best choice in the movie all the time. Good story, good playing, good pictures and good background music and sound effect. Every single moment, filmmakers never show too much or less to you in the frame. The opening is amazing!!! Don't miss it because that should be THE BEST MOVIE IN THIS YEAR Seriously!!

This movie was amazing, highly stylized and so beautifully filmed. I loved the 80s-esque music, the gratuitous violence, the awkward silences. It's clearly not a movie that can be appreciated by everyone, but if you can appreciate great acting, a solid soundtrack and a little blood, it's definitely worth watching.

The subtleties of the film are what really make it amazing. From Ryan Gosling's expression to the poignancy of the soundtrack at each given scene."... And a real hero..." mmm-mmm good.

Great, different, fresh fresh while bringing some cool grooves of the 80s, dry, and very intense, especially in the slow moments. Don't expect anything conventional and enjoy this tarantinesque, graphic, gory, romantic, hopeless piece of art. Now really, don't expect "Fast 5". But Give it a shot if you're down for some art house meets adrenaline. I feel some reviews are unfair in numbers, the scale seems more like a 'how close does it resemble the classic Hollywood model'.

The comments are right. It is slow going, not action'd packed like the fast movies, nor jam packed with story line. It is however, well filmed, directed and acted. The film is steady and doesn't leave you hanging or snoring. The soundtrack is phenomenal; 80's appreciation needed here. I would recommend it and plan on seeing it once again before it leaves the theatres now that I know what to expect!

WOW! I really liked this movie! Possibly destined for greatness even. I want to say it would be like Taratino redoing Ghost Dog but that simply doesn't do this justice because there is SO much more here. Ryan Gosling is becoming uncomfortably attractive and I'm really enjoying seeing him in movies. He's perfect in this as is Mulligan who is just adorably awesome as well. Albert Brooks super spooked-me given that it's the voice of Nemo saying and doing all these insane things. And it's nice to see Ron Perlman actually filmed differently for once. I was beginning to worry he was too 2-dimensional. Also, it has the most tense car chase scenes I've seen in a long time and it didn't even use much quick editing. Wow. There are some superb moments of pure tension both on and off the road. I think it's hilarious that some woman sued because it was neither Fast nor Furious. Hence, why I'm giving this an outstanding review. It's brilliant.

Anyone who complains that this movie is "slow" and "boring" obviously was expecting a Vin Diesel flick. If you enjoy crap, and want to see pure garbage, then go watch "Faster-er and Furious-er-er", or whatever the hell the latest terrible movie in theatres is. This is real cinema, and one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life. This is more the kind of movie that people interested in the arts will enjoy. If you want mindless entertainment and explosions, stay far away. But if you want to see one of the best movies of the year - and in my opinion, of all time - hurry up and watch this. It's definitely worth seeing in theatres, and several times. I'm going to see it on Tuesday for the third time.

Excellent movie. I see it as a future franchise, along the lines of the Bourne movies. Lots of similarities there: good-intentioned young man with mysterious past is imposed upon (because he is inconvenient and gets in the way) by violent events in outside world, is protective towards women and children, and deadly in combat, which he doesn't hesitate to enter into. I'll be there for round 2.

WOW! Having read the reviews posted here, I wasn't sure as to what I should expect, but I must say again: WOW!!! Strong, suspenseful, taught, emotional, well cast, great music... I hesitate to use superlatives, but this is a great piece of work. For reasons unexplained, The Driver lives within himself but is ever alert and protective with respect to his surroundings and those inhabiting them. He is not evil but has a 'live and let live' approach. Irene and her son allow him to experience a soft but hidden side. The dialogue is minimal, but volumes are spoken through the eyes, the face, the body language. It is violent but this is indicative of the life-style of the characters involved. One of the best films I have seen in a long time!

In my opinion the movie is hard to understand. It has a lot of killing and blood scenes. Also if you don't like heads blowing up, stabbing people or is scared of blood, I would not recommend you to watch this because as I said before there are many scenes of killing and blood.

Worth seeing if only to subject your film palate to a different genre; Arthouse/"film noir"/pulp whatever you wanna call it. I'll concur with others who say that the movie wasn't what they expected but hey get over it. Btw stupidest thing I've heard in a while: a woman in the States suing the movie company because the trailer misled her [...] What would her damages be exactly?.. 10 dollars ish. And one thing that annoys me now is when ppl say "theres one and a half hours of my life I'll never get back"... gimme a break! Granted, this movie will only appeal to certain people but go see it and make up your own mind (btw if you liked True Romance you'll like this) At the very least you'll get a different perspective on filmaking. I didn't really love this movie; likely rate it a 5 but I'm adding 1 for having the guts to be different and a big 1 for the soundtrack... I LUUUV it!

Simply put this as another level of cinema. It's not a fast paced action film, rather, it's a roller coaster. It's not a Fast and the Furious. The reason why some people rate it low is due to their expectations. Go in there looking for symbolism and metaphors (the gloves, the white jacket) ill concede at times the action is slow but this makes it such a huge and sudden contrast that the violence is all the more raw and urgent and visceral. Amazing movie, a must see.

If you expect it to be "Fast and Furious", stop reading this review and don't watch this movie. If you continued reading- I think the movie is comparable to "No country for old men"- serious, broody, contemplative and combining extreme subtleties with extreme brutality. Kinda like life. Great soundtrack too.

Do not take your wife to this movie - We had no idea how graffic the violence was in this movie that came out of no where. Great idea stuntman by day and getaway driver by night - wished they stuck with that theme for the whole movie and not just the first 1/2 hour... very little to no car chases - big disappointment.
