For me, this is the movie of the year. Graphics and special effects were perfect. I was afraid I wouldn't enjoy the story, but this was breath taking.

This is a great movie! Very original. Some of the dialogue was a bit hard to understand though. I felt like I needed/wanted to see it once or twice more right after as I think I would catch more seeing it again.

The graphics were awesome and a good story.

Long movie... hard to watch, boring, long, need to be able to fast forward through if I could. This movie does not hold my attention.

I saw it in 3D. I thought it was one of the better 3D experiences I've had, although the technology still has a ways to go before I actually look forward to seeing a movie in 3D. The movie itself was not very interesting if you were to read it as a script, but the cinematography was consistently good and at times imaginative. Imagination is the key word here I think, since there isn't anything particularly realistic going on once we get into the main theme. But hey, it's a movie - it's not bad at all.

Phenomenal journey, from a family setting in India where a young man is reaching beyond his family, nationality and religion, to the journey that takes him into himself and then back. Colors, scenery, and the imagination are stretched to the edge of reason, and rate very high acclaim. Artistic, at times frightening, and soul-enhancing.

Good movie. Beautiful cinematography. The story is a little lame - but that the book too. Too much religion for my taste, trying to be a bit too philosophical (in the same sense the Castaway's ending takes away from an otherwise amazing movie)

Very touching. I liked the book and I liked the movie. I am not a 3D fan but this time it worth it. Beautiful! Go and see it while it is still on the movies.

Go see Life of Pi before it leaves the big screen!! Amazing visuals, great acting, excellent story. I gotta read the novel. I took my 10yr old and will warn that there was one part in the boat that was a little too graphic for him. But we both loved the movie.

My kids thought it was too long... I agreed. Was a good story and appreciate it for the great visual experience.

It was one of the top 5 movies I've ever seen in my life. It was deep, thought provoking, exciting at the same time. The special effects were amazing. With the 3D effects, I felt I was the main character. There were images of things flying out of the screen into my face or from behind me into the screen... LOL What an experience! The story itself, though, was beautiful.

Most kids probably wouldn't like it very much, although I quite thoroughly enjoyed it!

This is a beautiful movie, top notch entertainment. Just a wonder to see in 3D. You must see this in a cinema on a big screen. It is a big picture show. SO glad I made it while it is still on the big screen. Wish Avatar would replay sometime soon.

I went with both of my kids and we all loved it! I have even bought the book now because I just can't get enough of Pi's intriguing adventures. It really is a good movie and one of my daughters cried when the tiger left... I recommend you go watch it asap!!

This is a movie that should be seen in 3-D.

It was different... I have no regrets watching it. Wish I could give it a higher mark but either it didn't pull me in enough directions or it didn't go deep enough until only the end to pull a 9 or 10 from me. I did like the morale at the end.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie until the final ten minutes. Maybe I was waitng for the typical Hollywood ending so the crash to reality was totally unexpected.

What a fantastic adaptation of the book. The animals were so real it appeared that they were live not CGI. The present day recollections of the main character were nicely done and provided a nice break from the intensity of the boat.

Incredible visuals and story. Really enjoyed this film and not surprised at it raking in the awards. Exciting, fun, and depressing all at once.

Yann Martel is a master storyteller! Loved the book & movie!

Interesting story... Great visual effects... Entertaining.

The beginning was very slow but until the story really began, it was amazing. About how Pi has to live with the mighty tiger is impressive. It has amazing effects, good actors and an amazing story behind all of it. I never read the book but I sure will. It's also heartwarming and touching. Go see it if you have the chance!

This movie is a treat visually, emotionally and intelectually. If you want to see a wonderful film... this is it!

I have no qualms about the excellent, imaginative and creative direction of Mr. Lee, However what I felt, as weak in the book was unfortunately in the movie, being basically the setup and the end of 2nd act, but worth watching regardless.

A sweet, sweet movie. The visuals were marvelous in 2D so it must have been out of this world for viewers in 3D. Quite a few clever lines to keep us loose although I did have some difficulty with the dialect (my problem) From an acclaimed novel by Canadian Yann Martel, and the co-star's home was Bowmanville, ON. Although he has since passed on, he will be remembered for this fine performance.

I had read the book prior to reading this movie, and I sincerely enjoyed it. There was nothing significant missing from the book to the movie, and I found the movie just as amazing as the book. The detail of the images was astounding. Even if you did not read the book, watch this movie because it is spectacular. You do not need the book to understand the movie, but I would recommend reading the book anyways!

Could be much better. Parts that I did not understand. Tons of fish and the guy was on a floating island. But it was a funny movie.

Just saw it on DVD on BIG screen TV, but searched for it at a movie theater. Happy to say I found it. Going to see it, can't wait. It is AMAZING.

While this wasn't exactly my kind of movie, I must admire it as a brilliant piece of film making. The cinematography was outstanding as was the CGI. The story was a little plodding and at times dragged out, but it served its purpose. I wasn't a big fan of the religious undertones but they were subtle enough not to dominate the film completely. In the end, I wasn't moved like many other reviewers were but can respect the accomplishment.

I was worried that the wonderful novel would not be successfully adapted into film. I needn't have worried because the film was quite faithful to the book and looked amazing. It's a visual feast, with a terrific performance from the newcomer who plays the young Pi Patel, as well as Irrfan Khan who plays the adult Pi. At times I could tell that the animals were CGI, but otherwise I was thoroughly entranced by this film. Kudos to Ang Lee. Yann Martel must be pleased that the film did tribute to his work.

Visually stunning and excellent plot - this film does the book justice! If there is any film to watch in a lifetime, this should be the one.

Really is a great movie! Yes there are scary parts, so judge the maturity of your kids before taking them. The almost-to-the end part almost spoiled it for me, but others may like it. Fantastic cinematography!

Read the book years ago, and loved the story. The movie was fantastic... I don't think there were any important elements not captured beautifully and full of heart. Ang Lee and all the actors did a superb job. I wouldn't change a thing.

I must first admit that I once started reading this book and that I didn't enjoy the writing enough to continue to the ocean part of the tale. Had I read on, it may well have really grabbed me. This screenplay however, had no trouble holding my attention from beginning to end. My buddy told me this was visually stunning and a really excellent film, so I went. Even got hooked into paying the unthinkable $22.50 for VIP as that was the only time available we could go to. All of that working against this show, even the price sets the bar high to make it tougher to please, and yet I left this movie with a sense of wonder at the beautiful ideas that run through some brilliant peoples' minds. It was indeed visually glorious, the acting was outstanding (especially impressed with the young Pi), and the story is truly beautiful with a wonderful message about choices in life be they regarding religion or simply how we wish to view and interpret events in our lives and the lives of those around us. This isn't a movie really heavy on action, though there are some great such moments, but it's really rich in thought and ideas. Visually though, absolutely beautiful. A tale of two tales, I know which I'd like to believe;)

The preceding review explains it all, a wonderful movie for kids, maybe for a child in some of us, but I could not, for the life of me, detect the spiritual message apparently embedded there. The story was simple and sweet and so unrealistic. Try reading The Lifeboat, a fantastic depiction of a similar event, a real antidote to the Life of Pi for adults.

One of the best movies in history!

I see very few 3D movies because I'm not an action movie person, and I wondered whether it lessen my enjoyment of Pi. I had read the book years ago, and I felt I knew what to expect. I was delighted with the results - I think the chance Ang Lee took shooting in in 3D was worth it. It did add a sensual and spiritual quality to an already incredible story, as well as bringing you right into a very tight corner with some very dynamic characters.

A very nice story with excellent special effects but the movie is ideal for kids rather than adults. Good movie to take your kids to but it drags on a bit and it's a bit too "fantastic" for adults.

The Life of Pi is truly astonishing! I had heard that it was beautiful, but I didn't expect it to be so visually stunning. The scenes of ocean storms, bioluminescence, the breaching of the whale, and the flying fish were spectacular. The tiger in itself is a work of the art--the most believable animation. And the star of the film, the young man who plays Pi, is brilliant, even though he's never acted before. What I didn't expect was the spiritual element of the story which asks such important questions (Where is God when we suffer? What is religion really about? What is true?) This is one of the best movies I have ever seen.

My first review ever but when I saw someone put 2/10 I had to act. I don't believe they saw the same movie. This movie was so moving in so many ways. We saw it as a family and my kids (9 & 11) said this was the best movie they have EVER seen. Visually stunning, a great story, wonderful characters and good acting. Unlike many family/kids movies, they did not rely on special effects for the wow factors. The special effects were used here to enhance the storytelling. Go see it. You will be amazed!

A must see. Amazing graphics and story.

Impossible story! And it failed to create a fictional universe where the action could have been possible. A waste of time... and a waste of money. Only politics could have given this any prize!

Mystical, epic, astonishingly beautiful - wish I could give this an 11!!! I am going to see it again next weekend - I rarely watch a movie twice, let alone pay for a movie ticket twice, but this was so worth it.
