This movie [is] really a back to the basic kind of horror. No blood or gore but that's OK because the suspense, the music and the scenery will make people jump out of their seat:)

A classic ghost story, very atmospheric. It was well done and creepy, without resorting to gore. Maybe there were some people more jaded and cynical than me, but I don't see horror movies much, and I found this terrifying. People seem to love or hate the ending; I liked it. And it seems like it was a good role for Daniel Radcliffe, fresh out of the Harry Potter franchise. He plays a widower with a four-year-old child and spends most of the movie confused or scared, and you thankfully don't think of Harry Potter the whole time.

Good period piece and many scary moments make this movie a cut above for horror fans. The Harry Potter guy was pretty good too.

I have gone to lots of movies that were supposed to be scary and was totally disappointed. Let [me] tell you this movie made me jump out of my seat. Finally a scary movie done the old fashion way without blood and guts. Daniel Radcliffe was believable as the grieving father. I thought it was going to end one way but this movie surprised me and ended very boldly, hats off to all involved in this movie.

I really enjoyed this movie. It was very scary and the pop ups weren't predictable. Which made it way better! Loved it! It's a must see for sure.

I love Harry Potter. He is the reason why I got an xbox instead of a ps3.

Was predictable but had a couple jumpy scenes. Ok all in all.

I am a fan of the horror genre so naturally I was quite inclined to see "The Woman in Black." I only truly got startled with one particular scene, though the rest of the movie was boring and predictable. I watch these movies for a thrill, unfortunately this movie fell short of the thrills. I won't be seeing this movie again. Also, Radcliffe did not have very many lines in the movie and when he spoke it was nothing of interest.

Not a real bad movie but could have been much better. The ENDING sucked as very typical lately of these movies. Perhaps too much attempt at trying to be scary for about half an hour of the movie. Good renter though.
| 5/10 | brentturville@ - 57 reviews 7.2.2012 - age: 36-49 |
The best compliment I can give this film is that A) you don't see and are not reminded of Harry Potter every time he is on screen, and B) The director does an amazing job of giving you that old school screw with your mind drawn out stuff comparable to classics like the Changeling and The Amityville Horror, and mixes it with the new style of in your face jumpy stuff. It was really fun and will be a good horror movie for the classic fans and the new horror film fans, but not the gore hunters. With all that being said, like any horror movie ever there are some plot gaps and a few scenes that make you *facepalm but overall.. I was very impressed! I should let you know that horror movies are my favorite!!

This movie was great. I never get scared of movies (I normally leave that to my friends), but this hooked me in. The pop-ups were there, but were over ruled by the holy-crud-did-you-see-that moments. The storyline and characters aren't weak (as has become normal for trillers) I was also delighted to see Radcliffe getting on in life post-potter with such a great role.

I liked this one very much. Excellent horror movie. If you like this kind of movies go and see it, otherwise stay away.

This was one of the best scary movie of the year!! Daniel Radcliffe did a amazing job! He proved his Harry Potter fans that he can do stuff other than the Harry Potter series. This movie was very scary, my eyes were almost always closed, but I still very much enjoyed the movie! Go see it, it is a must see. [...] it was even better than any other scary movie of the year so far in my opinon.

Atmospheric and cool attempt at creating a ghost story. HOWEVER this movie just went downhill so fast, it was so extremely boring, with a couple flash scary face scenes, that of course with a loud scream may make you spill your popcorn and say what the hell was that. I rated this movie 4 "not good, even if you don't pay" because the thought crossed my mind should I stay or leave and I said to myself you have seen worse and considering you paid for this. So then you just had to make the best of it and cheer HARRY POTTER ON! Harry was scared to death. But this movie didn't scare the rest of us!

I liked it... I did jump a few times and did like the story and the ending fit. Daniel Radcliffe was great.

I love movies that make you jump, this one failed to do so. I was into the story but it didn't deliver, unsatisfying ending, a lot of missed opportunities for a good scare, some good creepy jump out of your seat moments, and for the story. On a positive note, Daniel did a great job in the movie and good transition from Harry Potter, but the character is an man with a child and a lawyer so I feel this character is in mid twenties but whole movie felt like he was 19 or 21. Overall bad movie, good acting and hope to see Daniel in other things.

Great movie with frightening scenes. Very ghostly and gothic in the haunted house and graveyard. Expect the unexpected that will make you jump. The woman in black ghost looked scary up close, if you dare to look.

Daniel Radcliffe could not pick a more worse movie to do. This movie was NOT scary... more of a MADE for tv movie. This movie had no plot line... what was the point of this movie... it left me wondering why this and that... basically disappointed me on every turn. Nothing but dark scenes and a lot of screaming figures. WISHED I had walked out but alas I stayed til the end. Not worth it to see if it was free and my life depended on seeing this horrible movie. Please this is not worth the price of admission or the waste of time that you would waste seeing this garbage... heck I would not even rent or buy this garbage.

Excellent horror movie although I did spend most of it with my eyes closed. If you love horror movies and can watch them with your eyes open I'm sure you will enjoy this one but like any horror movies, it was a bit cheesy. But it freaked me out so it's good!

Though Daniel Radcliffe doesn't say much in this horror thriller, he still didn't over react or under perform, he did moderate. I was going with high hopes of being scared in this film but most of the scares were jump or boo scares. Though one scene really got me towards the ending. The women in black is overall a very good movie to watch and if you're like my friend, you might jump a lot and waste your popcorn. The women in black is fun and entertaining to watch.

The movie wasn't that scary. It was a little creepy in parts, made me jump once or twice. It was sad and had a bad ending. But over all worth seeing, I think the acting was great. I love Daniel Radcliffe.

Although The Woman in Black is not likely to be the scariest film you will ever see, it has a knack for keeping you on the edge anticipating something to jump out at you. The strength of the film is building that unsettling atmosphere rather than relying on gore. Daniel Radcliffe's first post-Harry Potter film is a fairly decent outing.

Where to start. The setting is great feast for the eyes. The story tho is on the lacking side in how it is fleshed out on screen imho. The scares... very sparse. In a town so small, everyone would know everyone else's business, yet it took a stranger from out of town to tie it all together? Hmmm I can see this as a sort of jumpstart for Hammer possibly returning as a screen giant Horror genre house like they were back in the day, but I dunno if the timing was right for T. W. I. B... Nor was/is T. W. I. B. a strong enough offering. This might have been cooler, if there was actually more movie here. Still, it is not a bad movie. Just lacking overall. It feels like a short story adapted to screen. Needs more meat.

This actually surpassed my expectations. I don't get scared easily but there was some parts that I was frightened. The music really added to the suspense. Even though there were pop-ups, it really wasn't the kind of movie that the sole sense of frightening were the pop-ups -- though those were probably the scariest part. Daniel Radcliffe also did better acting than I expected, and I reckon he's not going to be the kind of actor that is only good for one series. I really recommened it, unless you get frightened easily.

| 8/10 | luciano.santos@ - 46 reviews 5.2.2012 - age: 36-49 |
The things I like about this movie may be what some may not like - like the fact that it relies on real, handmade special effects and the talents and skills of the film maker, editors and sound technicians to create and drive the jumps and frights! Daniel Radcliffe's acting is spot on as are all of the actors. What I like about this flick is that it's made in a style that's more in line with British spook flicks from the 70's and 80's... it doesn't rely on CGI (computer generated graphics) for its effects, effects which make it a standout in today's market of horror flicks. It also has a more European feel to it due to a more slow and steady buildup of intensity as opposed to the emotional roller coaster ride approach employed by most Hollywood flicks of this nature. I presume some will love it and others won't... get it. I however, highly recommend it!

I would have give an 6.5 worth seeing is border line. It could have been much better! I supposed Daniel did not have any problem with his script in this remake, there is too much dialogue!!! This remake is better with special effect but I would say the original was better!

I thought this was fantastically creepy. It was subtle and so effective. The little village was authentic looking and you could feel the isolation. A surprisingly vicious entity - on par with vengeful spirit movies like Ringu. I thought Daniel Radcliffe did a great job - his acting will only improve with age. Ciaran Hinds also lends refinement and interest to the movie. Definitely one to add to my movie collection.

Have never been a big fan of the blood and guts horror and this one was so reminiscent of the movies of the 40s and 50s that had me jumping out of my seat and even screaming at one time. Daniel Radcliffe did a great job for his first post Harry Potter film but the star was the haunted house and the creapy setting. If you want to be scared with a good store, but not get grossed out, this is the movie for you.

Saw this movie last night, and it was BORING. Wasn't scary, and acting was pretty bad as well. Wait till it comes out on dvd. I did like the Harry Potter reference near the beginning of the movie. Not sure if anyone else noticed it or if it was even intentional.

OKAY this is going to be the best review for this movie. First of all, I saw the trailer for this movies about 3 or 4 months ago and it looked great and I couldn't wait to see it. So last night I went to go see the movie, it starts off slow and kinda picks up but not that much. Was it creepy? Yes, in some parts, but they were mostly just jump scares, oh, and if you saw the trailer for the movie, it gives off a good portion of what's to come in the movie, so if I were you, don't watch the trailer. Oh, and I tough the movie was going to be longer and have more talking, but it really didn't and it kinda just wraps up in the end. SO if I were you I would see this movie just DON'T get your hopes up like I did.
