Although too gross for the majority of moviegoers, this black (as in dark) musical is wicked entertaining thanks to a talented cast and very gifted director. My only problem with the movie is, like most Burton movies for me, that the use of humour is too awkward. You're really not sure if you're supposed to be laughing and when are you are, you're not sure if you want to be laughing. Still, the filming and music more than make up for that one drop of ink in the ointment. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is Depp and Burton's darkest movie yet. Don't expect to be as amused as if you may have been in other Depp and Burton films. This movie is completely without joy. That certainly doesn't mean it isn't very entertaining though.
