I just rewatched this last night! This is still the 2nd scariest movie I've ever seen. When my Dad saw it in the 70's, I've been told he didn't sleep for two nights. The movie is near-perfect. The director's cut is very good too. Ridley Scott has never been able to redo another masterpiece after this one. Talk about an incredible cast! Besides Weaver and Skeritt, the top-notch ensemble includes two of Britain's best actors -- Ian "Bilbo" Holm, as the untrustworthy science officer, and John Hurt. The movie still looks amazing too. Almost like a new film. It's the most incredible gradual raise of tension and sense of menace that I've ever seen on the big screen. I was so lucky that it was rereleased on the big screen a few years ago. A great film that upsets your mind and stomach at the same time. At the premiere, one of the ushers passed out when the chestburster emerges! That's Exorcist-level cool. I never thought that a haunted house movie in space would be considered a masterpiece but, well, there you have it.
