It was Roland Emmerich's best comeback since The Day After Tomorrow!

The effects were great but the story was, unrealistic, I didn't care about any of the characters, the characters didn't even care about other characters why should I. Halfway through the movie I felt like I was watching Poseidon, it was boring after the first 20 minutes.
| 5/10 | jer_duarte@ - 92 reviews 27.6.2012 - age: 18-25 |
One of the best written and directed movie I have seen for years! - Fantastic family movie also!

This movie is not realistic at all this is a piece of [...] s**t.
| 1/10 | lukiepukie88@ - 4 reviews 2.3.2012 - age: 13-17 |
The special effects were pretty cool and it gives you an idea how the world could actually end. I Think Cusack was amazing in the lead role.
| 8/10 | chrispinnington@ - 16 reviews 29.1.2012 - age: 18-25 |
I enjoyed this movie from beginning to the end despite it being 2.5 hours long. Both the actions and the emotional side of the stories were interesting and exciting. Hope to see it again soon.

The best end of the world movie has finally arrived, 2012!
| 10/10 | connorhw1@ - 410 reviews 1.11.2011 - age: 1-12 |
2012 is a natural disaster movie with superb special-effects, but a lame story. There is little (if any) explaination to many things that happen. I enjoyed Deep Impact a lot more than 2012...
| 5/10 | zygoto78@ - 273 reviews 28.4.2011 - age: 26-35 |
It seems that someone just wanted to make a big action blockbuster and then quickly put together as good a cast as they could pay for and threw together a script. The cast is actually usually quite strong, with John Cusack, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover and Woody Harrelson. Only Woody provide some interesting dialogue while the others are forced to deal with a horrible script that is just based on a bunch of cliche lines and half explanations. The reason for the disaster is also only quickly mentioned, they simply needed a reason to get those cool action shots in, but this film proves that cool earthquakes and tsunamis do not make a movie. One of the worst movies I have seen in a long time.

Amazing, you don't have time to get bored while watching this movie. The story was alright , I would of done more with it... but it didn't stop me from really enjoying this movie!!
| 9/10 | joseelozeau@ - 33 reviews 21.9.2010 - age: 18-25 |
This movie wasn’t bad for those looking for pure end of the world entertainment. The effects were good, but most of the movie was pretty over-the-top to the point of being ridiculous.
| 6/10 | bradshawscott@ - 100 reviews 3.6.2010 - age: 26-35 |
Mah. Not very appealng maybe it was because I was forced to come or it was just bad. I mean the effects were good but it didnt have much of a story, predictable.
| 4/10 | jennafofenna100@ - 2 reviews 27.3.2010 - age: 13-17 |
Very nice animation and movie, I recommend every one to watch it. By the way this event would be true one day in the future.

2012 the movie overview: 1) Russian billionaires are fat, ugly, dumb sacks of crap that [...] Young Russian [...] with fake breasts, which in turn cheat on them with Russian younger guys. 2) Russian rich kids are also fat, ugly, dumb and spoiled sacks of crap. (you can only expect that from illiterate and fat Americans) 3) The only people in the whole movie with enough balls to come out and do "the right thing" are African Americans. 4) The guy who is in charge after the president died is a dumb white guy that only cares about saving his own ass. The only thing I noticed was missing from depicting Russians was a bottle of vodka and a winter hat. I could go on further but I suggest you watch it, I had a good laugh! --Rolland Emmerich, you are an ignorant fool, read a book or watch some discovery channel.

Watched this on dvd and actually liked it. Thought it was going to be a big budget bore. This is the thing I like about movies --every once in awhile they surprise you.
| 7/10 | goldhawke@ - 17 reviews 8.3.2010 - age: 36-49 |
Don't go to 2012 looking for a plot. The most interesting plot point is the moral delama that some of the characters face. Other reviews say that it was predictable, but there wasn't much of a story line to predict, to be honest. There was a lot of "And when nothing else could go wrong.." moments that kind of dragged on, especally near the end. As for acting, some of the lead roles could have been cast a bit better, but most of the time the fault was within the script. It's special effects were for the most part good, but Visuals don't make a movie.

Better than the ratings say it is. You should watch it.

I loved this movie! The special effects alone are well worth the price of seeing or buying this movie even if you hate the story line. You get to see Yellowstone Park's valcano blow it's top and the way they save themselves buy building arcs which really isn't that crazy an idea if you believe Noah and his Arch that saved human kind buy building a giant arc. I loved the movie and hope you did too.

I loved it sooo much! I don't know why it has such a low rating. It's not a waste of money! Kids like it more than adults. The movie is not that scary!

Hero will never die. Everyone around the hero become the tools. Nice science affact but very poor story line.
| 6/10 | shortytimmy@ - 34 reviews 21.2.2010 - age: 26-35 |
The special effects were great but everything else not so much. The movie goes on for too long and by the last half hour I was getting bored and couldn't wait for the movie to end.
| 5/10 | parker_2@ - 296 reviews 12.2.2010 - age: 36-49 |
It was okay. The plot of the movie was kind of childish... still think," The Day After Tomorrow," movie beats it by a long shot.
| 6/10 | jenniesantos90@ - 5 reviews 11.2.2010 - age: 18-25 |
So farfetched and any movie that has a last line of “No more pull-ups “ is stupid. Like come on you could have changed that line. Just stupid!

I thought the special f/x were second to none. However, they should have worked on improving the dialogue and acting, which were lacklustre. Although I found the premise to be intriguing, nothing new seemed to be brought to the table in this film.

There have been many end of the world films before Roland Emmerich's 2012 hit the silver screen but I doubt that any will ever again rival its devastating CGI glory. Sadly with 2012 Emmerich has also painted his career into a corner. Seriously, how do you top yourself or the genre that defined your career when you've commited to the siver screen the greatest special effects disaster movie of all time? No, 2012 is not the greatest film of all time, in fact I'm pretty sure that artistically 2012 is as close as you can come to circling the drain but as apocalyptic visual rollercoasters go it makes the combined efforts of previous disaster films look amateurish. Any further disaster movies are now irrelevant. Traditionally scripting and dialogue are not Emmerich's strong suits and 2012 is no different. The cast might as well be meat puppets for all the wasted emoting going on. It's all about the F/X and the actors here are just here to ground the chaos for the audience. This is cinematic junkfood in the truest sense. So bad for you and yet so good.

I went in the cinema not having seen any trailers or read any reviews... And I thought it was edge of your seat, surprisingly good action! I think it's great if you go in with no expectations! Very entertaining & good acting!
| 8/10 | zouzim@ - 5 reviews 4.2.2010 - age: 18-25 |
Interesting concept, but you feel that the story wasn't brought up to its full potential. Besides that, after many subplots and horrible acting, there isn't anything else worth mentioning regarding this movie.
| 5/10 | rocafrank@ - 27 reviews 3.2.2010 - age: 18-25 |
Great film for this category. Really good effects. Well acted.
| 9/10 | gary.maxsum@ - 3 reviews 3.2.2010 - age: 50+ |
I thought this movie was alright, the idea was there but it seemed like the movie dragged on with a story that could be told in a much shorter time span. As well the actual events where very unrealistic on many occasions. As for the Price, because the Carnival theatre in Red Deer is a fair addmission it is worth it and you'll enjoy what the movie tries to capture in its story!
| 6/10 | jmb2015@ - 2 reviews 2.2.2010 - age: 18-25 |
Because of the special effects, this movie needs to be seen for the first time on the big screen. The storyline is more or less believable & yes quite predictable. For those who loved the movie "The day after tomorrow" will probably enjoy this movie as well.

I love this movie, because it talk the of the earth.
| 10/10 | sexy_sab_13@ - first review 24.1.2010 - age: 13-17 |
This is a modern retelling of Noah's Ark (s)arks in plural. I like the reference to the work of Charles H. Hapgood. I think he was mentioned in the last Indiana Jones movie as well. Anyways, imagine the Ark narrative stripped of any mention of God and you have rotten people deciding who gets on and who drowns. I hope a faithful movie on Noah's narrative gets filmed. That would be really cool. At least if this happened, the world would get what it deserves instead of the scenario depicted in 2012.
| 7/10 | fractalfires@ - 17 reviews 21.1.2010 - age: 36-49 |
Just watched it! It's a good bad movie! CGIs are great, plot is awkward, every single little detail is lame, good acting though! I love Woody Harrelson's character. Go watch it, don't leave it for DVD as much of the film won't look so great on a small screen.
| 7/10 | andrmpereira@ - first review 13.1.2010 - age: 36-49 |
Filled with schlocky characters and melodrama with a dash of I can't believe these special effects are so cool. If for anything, see it for the disaster scenes as misanthropic as this may sound.

The first half hour was boring... But after that it's a thrilling story line recommend.

This movie has a terrible predictable storyline. At one point the mother's new husband dies by being ground up in the gears of huge door... after having saved all of their lives by using what little flying skills he had. The wife shows virtually no emotion and quickly bonds with her ex-husband... uh, I call BS!!
| 3/10 | peter@ - 7 reviews 10.1.2010 - age: 50+ |
We enjoyed the movie. The reviews built it up quite a bit so the expectations were high on our part. It didn't meet expectations but thought the movie was good. Would recommend it and see it again.
| 8/10 | polo-puppy-fluffy@ - 3 reviews 8.1.2010 - age: 50+ |
Great effects, nothing original in terms of plot, totally predictable. Had a main character died (as Shelley Winter or Gene Hackman did in the original -and best- Poseidon adventure)this would have been a better movie.
