Russel Brand does a fine job as the loveable drunk Arthur. The movie is well directed with a nice little, romantic story and quite a few good gags. It wasn't split your gut funny, but it did well as a romantic dramedy, as the mix of funny and romantic worked quite well in my opinion. That's now a couple of times, the other being his role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, that I'd have to admit Brand is an O. K. actor as well as pretty charming clown. Helen Mirren is, unsurprisingly, very strong in her role, which for the most part is dramatic with a little splash of funny as well. I'd throw this in the class of chick flick most guys should at the very least be able to stand.
