Long and mostly pretentious film. Following a drama in a 50’s very white and ordinary american family, we are trusted in a transcendental realms «à la Kubrick», but without the effect and the precision of the Master. The cinematography is top notch, though. Brad Pitt, (one of the film’s producers) usually the pretty boy, shows his depth here as an actor and Sean Penn has never looked so good on film. This film tries to reach a spiritual, even religious level, but the end result is vastly disappointing.
