Pedantic and overall annoying film which is thoroughly overrated. Do not see this film unless you enjoy watching pointless arguments and one-pitched acting.

Predict that this film will win an Oscar for Best Foreign Picture. Even through some of the life issues involved takes place in a country with high censorship and harsh punishments, but the issues in "A Separation" are universal. We can all understand the stress of marital problems, the abundant needs of the young and elderly, and the struggle to do the right. The film is made up of a series of small missteps by otherwise good people which result in many misfortunes, with no real villain to blame at.

With great power and subtlety, Farhadi transforms this ugly quarrel into a contemporary tragedy.

A Powerful Drama. Wonderful script and excellent acting. Even though it's a drama, it moves like a thriller. Words can't fully describe this mind-blowing movie.

Shows very realistically the complexities of living in Iran, for all the classes of society.

No movie can better depict the strained inner workings of a society caught between modernity and tradition. Somewhere in the middle of the film you lose your sense of right and wrong and suddenly everyone from the antagonists to the protagonists, they become victims of their society.

A sad true story which is shown beautifully...
