This was a fun and exciting movie to see for sure. There's action, humor and a whole lot more.

I do not know why this movie got mixed or poor reviews. It is a change of pace for a spy flick. It's not James Bond but former 007 Timothy Dalton appears a few times in the movie. Mild mannered Frank, a math teacher is caught up in a web of spies and gangsters all because of the lovely lady he crosses paths with. (A. Jolie) Elise, Jolie plays the rich seductive Elise. A woman out of Frank's league. There are a few twists neither of which I was prepared for. I DID NOT HAVE THIS FIGURED OUT TIL ALMOST THE END.

Enjoyed this for the light bit of adventure that it was. Joli is such a beautiful woman. It's a wonderful movie for an evening of light relaxation.

To predictable for me, 5 minutes into the movie I knew where was heading and ending.
| 5/10 | imangela1@ - 20 reviews 9.3.2011 |
The scenery is fascinating and Depp and Jolie are looking great, but that can't save The Tourist from its bizarre plot and total flaws. It did have an unpredictable twist in the end, but a lot of questions were left unanswered... Overall entertaining, yet disappointing in thousands of ways and a waste of a brilliant cast!

When I go to a movie I want to be entertained and leave the theatre feeling good. I really enjoyed this movie. I had no idea what it was about before my friend suggested we go other than it had Depp and Jolie in the lead roles. I've enjoyed most movies these two have been in and this was no exception. I would recommend it to a more mature audience as it isn't typical of the current rash of movies - more in the Alfred Hitchcock style with a little humor tossed in for good measure.

Ugh. Two big names does not a big movie make. I was bored to tears. Zero chemistry between the leads. Terrible action scenes and bad one liners. Why greenlight this script at all. So glad I didn't pay for it, but I want my hours back.

All around entertainment. It fooled me and that is pretty hard to do. It reminded me of the "old days" movies and I would love to see more of this kind of writing. The actors were excellent in their parts and I could, which is rare, see it again.

It was a little slow starting, not overly active like we thought, but very good story line...

I really enjoyed this movie. My expectations weren't high because of the criticism this movie has received but I found myself being thoroughly entertained. A very good movie with great actors and splendid scenery!!!

All the budget was spent on the actors, and they hardly showed up. Visible mistakes in filming. Wish we had walked out early.

I was thoroughly entertained. Good story, mostly good acting (Depp), great scenery, some laughs, nice twist. Not a classic by any means, but decent.

I have never fallen asleep in all my movie going experience but by about the halfway mark I almost couldn't take it anymore. Luckily the movie quasi picked up (but really it didnt) I knew the ending all along. Bordered on brutal.

Okay, all the criticism makes sense, but Venice, Jolie andDepp make a very entertaining spectacle.

The acting by the principals is wooden. The whole film runs at a snails pace. The only thing interesting about was the idea of the story. Too bad it was so poorly executed.

A 'nice' movie with a surprise ending. A minimum of swearing, interesting scenery.
| 7/10 | djstdenis@ - 3 reviews 25.1.2011 - age: 50+ |
This film made me want to stand up and scream!!! What a huge waste of time. The premise is dumb, the plot thin and the "surprise" ending, very predictable. The two main actors have little chemistry between them and their acing is stiff and wooden. I don't know what happened here - good cast but this movie is a huge, big, boring, annoying zero.

A good-looking, smart, sweet American big shot thief facing a whole bunch of ugly, stupid, cruel big shot Russian thieves! Guess who is winning? Someone should wake up the screenwriter/director with the news: cold war is over. Time to think of something new.

It's a straight to video film. Don't waste your money. Go see true grit much better. The plot in this film is so unbelievable that it makes it difficult to get into. What a waste of talent.

This isn't as bad a movie as I expected it to be. Yes, it has a great deal of Angelina Jolie in it and I really cannot stand her as an actress, but she plays this particular role pretty good, that is she strikes the poses and pouts her lips and wears the makeup and dresses elegantly and most of all just stares in the distance! Johnny Depp is quite good, as usual. The problem is that this movie is a remake of an excellent French movie, and it seems almost everytime Hollywood decides to remake a great French movie, they muck it up and lessen its genious and charm. 6/10, not bad, but could and should have been much better.

This movie was better than the critics first lead on, and I only went to see it because the lovely woman I'm dating related that she liked it, and after a few dates with her I value her opinion. I was impressed by Johnny Depp's character acting in yet another movie as well as Angela Jolie's. The movie is definitely an Action Romance; but, with the twists that occur there is a searching going that adds depth to the film. It's literally a puzzle that Paul Bettany's character a the agent is piecing together. It is not just a movie about Angelina Jolie (Elise) choosing a decoy for police and mobsters alike by sitting next to an American tourist, Johnny Depp (Frank), on a train going to Venice. These characters develop through the whole movie, to the end. I can't say the movie is formulaic because this is connotative of a bad movie and this is not that at all; but, there is a definite structure I picked up on. The thing I mistook for formula at first, and I'm willing to bet most critics thought so also, was, the theory forming of love and life that people do sociologically. This process of development is a systematic qualitative form of research called “Grounding Theory”. This is a process which works backward from scientific theory in that data is collected, coded and then assembled in a teleological fashion only to be realized at the end. In the movie, Johnny's character is thrown into a situation and he is forced to deal and figure what his feelings of the situation are. A beautiful woman is seemingly dropped into his life and life gets dangerous. In Angelina's case she is dealing with her mixed emotions of love and looking for why she is seemingly never satisfied with the men in her life. Without even knowing it they give a hint to the process of grounding theory in the line that Depp's character eludes to when he relates on the boat that in America the highest complement a person could give to another is to say they are very grounded. Later, on the hotel balcony, he states that she is the most ungrounded person he's ever met. The airy nature of being ungrounded is the data he is processing, and she is his love, but she doesn't feel it and he can't make her feel it, this is the reason for the movie. We see this difficulty about him in early clips on the train where she is shaping what a woman likes and what a man really is, he of course tries to be accommodating to prove his interest in her. Now in the end it isn't until we get to the final moments with the safe cracking that we realize the depth of the movie and with the teleological reasoning and process of their research into one another's love we see the ultimate proof in Angelina's eyes of what was really going on in the whole movie and to what extent Depp's character was willing to go to for her. Paul Bettany's is always a treat in the movie as the agent and Timothy Dalton's cameo role was good too; but, this is the juxtaposition to have these two seemingly second rate roles played by significant actors to highlight that the movie was about Elise and Frank the whole time. When people date they usually have to date for a really long time before they know the other is the one for them; unless of course, they put themselves into unfamiliar situations of an adventure or travel where not everything is controlled. In this the others true character comes through loud and clear. PML.

Well, it was a great look at Venis and the boats were marvelous as were Angelina's clothes, but it was no surprise that there were five writers aparently none of whom knew were this movie was headed. Depp had nothing to do so all he could do was stand around and let what ever was going to happen, happen. All in all, I was surprized the Gorge even bothered with this movie.

Seriously, don't bother. I was actually looking forward to seeing this one. Thought it had potential to be a fun romp. Not! Absolutely no chemistry between these "most beautiful people in the world"! This crap of mouthing "I love you" what? Is this a romantic comedy? Only in those do people say "ILY" after the first kiss. Really terrible!

A nice thought-provoking diversion with interesting twists and turns. Pleasant acting and lovely visuals. Considering three of the four previews were shoot-em ups, it's not surprising this one doesn't click with the apparent majority of movie goers who want non-stop action.
| 7/10 | wastewar@ - 25 reviews 10.1.2011 - age: 50+ |
One of the worst piece of poo that I have ever watched, where should I start. The dialogue was so boring, from the preview I was expecting it to be an action movie, the plot was so slow that a snail can move faster. The ending was so dumb. The only reason that the movie was remotely good was because it had a-listed actors, if it had lesser known people then it would not make nearly as much money as it probably is now.

I personally find that both Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp are great actors, and they did a terrific job in this movie as well. As for the movie itself, I did not mind the fact that it wasn't 100% action. And although it wasn't 100% comedy either, there were quite a few moments of good laugh.

Simply the best movie in a long time. Angelina as the seductress nails it!! Depp was great as well in his own quirkiness self but in a different gendre ( about time ) I strongly suggest this movie... enjoyed it tremendously.

This movie was a masterpiece, I enjoyed every minute the plot was very rich and when you finally thought you got an answer you realize it is completely wrong. Although the chemistry was lacking between Jolie and Depp and I would have preferred more action scenes the twist at the end left me wanting more, this movie was amazing and I think anybody would love it.
| 10/10 | miamora@ - first review 8.1.2011 - age: 36-49 |
I don't understand the rating of this movie. Not sure what people who gave it low rating expected. Angelina Jolie is not running firing from three guns and throwing knifes, that's true. I like her very much and it's great that after so disappointing "Wanted" and "Salt" comes this movie. It's excellent movie, very enjoyable with great humor (no, you will not lough hilariously, but just smile to yourself) It has absolutely great scenes with a classic touch to it, scenes you will remember - like Italian police at the train station preparing to arrest Johnny Depp character. Jolie is stunning as always. Depp is fantastic - the way he plays American school teacher - the only scene of pursuit on roofs of Venice has a masterpiece quality to it. The scenery is breathtaking beautiful of course, there is a nice twist at the end (I wouldn't call the movie predictable), acting is great - I do believe that this movie is worth to be seen on big screen. And just a hint for Johnny Depp's fans - pay attention to the last phrase, it has the same soft humorist touch as the whole movie and Depp's acting in this movie.

Despite the reviews I was really prepared to like this. Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp in Paris and Venice. Sounds great no matter what, and for much of the film it was good. I liked the slow tempo and the feeling of 1950 or 1960's hitchcock. But in the end there seemed to be a problem, the plot, somewhat. But I think its mostly Johnny Depp, there is something wrong with his character or his portrayal. So it was not as enjoyable as it should have been. But still worth seeing. Without Angelina might have only been a 5, with her it's a 7.

It was alright, love Johnny Depp in anything, he is gorgeous. Wasn't as crazy about Angelina though, just the way she walks in this movie is laughable, the supermodel walk times ten. But I guess that was sort of her character. Ending was predictable, but it did kind of keep you guessing throughout the film. Not a fast-paced movie, but fairly original storyline. Oh, did I mention Johnny is gorgeous? ;)
