[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
This will be a review of the MOVIE, not the subject matter. Bear in mind that everyone giving this movie a 10 is ranking it above seminal films like Citizen Kane, Apocalypse Now, etc. This is a mediocre film at best. Huge gaps in what little plot exists expect the viewer to have an intimate knowledge of the subject matter. Cheesy hollywood effects like maggots crawling up the nose of the devil character, and little demon children chasing Judas negate Gibson's ostensible raison d'ĂȘtre - to create a Biblically/historically accurate depiction of the final 12 hours of Jesus' life. As impressive as having cast members speak Aramaic and Latin is, there is so little diaglogue that it could just as well have been Romanian and Tagalog. See this movie in the theatre if you, like everyone who gave this movie a 9 or 10, feel obliged because of your religious affiliation. Wait for DVD if you're a bona fide movie watcher who doesn't want to waste $12 on a movie in the same league as Hollywood Ninja or Kindergarden Cop.
