A good film, delivers this touchy subject very well, a little disappointing in the last 20min however.

Pretty good movie for something that has been done before. The story is far from original but the main characters are brought to brilliant life by superb actors. I was impressed with the acting and the movie held my interest.

Judi Dench was robbed of her Oscar! She is extraordinary in this role of a nasty manipulative teacher who gravitates to Cate Blanchette (also extremely good) - this movie is one of my favs for 2006! See it!

I found this movie to be long and rather boring. The acting was subtle, but ok. It just seems to take a very long time to get to where it is going. Glad I saw it at the cheap theatre. I'd say save it for the video, but, I think I would fall asleep if I were trying to watch it at home.

I think that Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett should have both won an Oscar for their incredible performances in this magnificent motion picture. It was totally fantastic! I loved this movie! I can't believe two actresses could have been as good as they were, in one movie! Trust me, intelligent people have to see that great, great movie!

Riveting! Intense. Superb acting by both Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett who delivers the kind of performance that you think you are right there in their living rooms..

The main theme of the movie is a bit unsettling to watch but not uncommon as we have read about similar incidents between teachers and students. An additional twist to the story is the obsession of one woman over another. Both actresses (Dench and Blanchette) delivered strong performances. I thought Judi Dench provided an uncharacteristically subtle, multi-layered performance. She made her character believable - a menacing, vindictive woman who even in the end rationalled her action as sane and logical..

"Notes on a Scandal" is an intriguing film exploring a subject not readily touched upon in cinema. The use of voiceover, usually a weak means of driving a narrative, seems to actually work in this film's favour. We get inside the mindset of Judi Dench's obsessive Barbara character. Both Dench and Blanchett give good performances raising the film above a simple thriller into something more of a character study. The story is unpredictable and credible, and successfully manages to give insight into a world of loneliness, of longing and the lengths that someone will go to attain it. Although neither Dench nor Blanchett's characters are likeable, somehow we are able to empathise with both of their actions. They are unhappy in their current lives and both seek some external desire. I would recommend this film..

Judi Denchs' performance is subtle, captivating, frightening and brilliantly diabolical. Cate Blanchet is beautiful and rivetting. The story is filled with twists and turns. Thought provoking, a must see.

It was an ok movie, predictable though. The old lady really pisd me off. It would've been much better if barbara's diaries were completely exposed and if more details were revealed about her life and secrets. I don't really recommend the movie, not that interestin. I'd rather watch at home than in the movies.

Worth seeing just for the acting of Dench and Blanchette. This movie struck me as a "Reality" show, and I tend to get "Reality" from everyday life. Had I known more about the plot, I probably wouldn't have paid to see something which I've witnessed in reality. And, I don't wast my eyesight on TV Reality shows either. Anyway, the acting was worth 7/10.

I went into this movie knowing nothing about it, so it took me a bit to figure out what would would happen next. Judi Dench was intense and great as she always is, I found her character very weird but believable. Good movie but I would normally have rented it, I liked the way it ended.

Don't read anything about it before you see it. I knew nothing and was therefore in for a fabulous film. Tasteful but filled with desire. Moving. Beautiful. Wonderful acting!

Dame Dench is a modern day acting marvel... Every project she collaborates on is improved by her presence... She has this uncanny ability to morph into any role she is given & is believable. If she does not win the Oscar, it is only due to her rival & equally talented Helen Miren... Boy do those Brits ever know how to treat their aging actresses! The States could learn something from them... A fantastic script & a wonderfully wicked performance... I am still thinking about it..

I think I'm still holding my breath - whew! That was an intense film. The film boldly explores some of the darker compulsions and delusions some people flirt with or consider, and in which others indulge. The writing, directing and acting are very fine indeed all across the board. The score adds the intensity usually applied to intelligent thrillers. I'm not sure how I'd classify this film."Psycho-drama"? Can you tell I loved this film?

This is really melodramatic fluff; not particularly deep or meaningful, content-wise. But what great performances! You do get sucked in by these two characters. I've heard criticism that the two protagonists are both unlikeable, but to me that's what makes it interesting - and ultimately, quite real. This sort of thing does happen, so it's quite disturbing entertainment!

OK, true enough, Dame Judi is a cunning (not perfect) predator, and pretty much for the duration of the film I wanted to flee. I'd say that that means that the film did it's job, and more. Cate Blanchette is utterly convincing, Bill Nighy no less so, and kudos to Andrew Simpson in his own turn as a youthful predator. Definitely not for those (in the words of Bruno Ponce-Jones) who like the puppy dog licking the face at the end. I'm curious as to why men seem to like the film more than women.

Dark, troubling, intense. BRILLIANT. I LOVED THIS FILM. Judi Dench and Cate Blanchette played off each other beautifully. Acting, music, cinemetography, adaptation, script all proved to be believable and rather haunting. An intense drama of two women trying to get the life they want or wanting the life they get; (of course, unbeknown to them)

Very good cinéma and very well played by both Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett. A good psychological drama with some turns (most are foreseeable) Had a few problems with the British accent but I got most of the meaning. Recommended!

Judi Dench plays a very believable psycho, incredibly lonely and at the same time delusional. Blanchett's performance was great, but not excellent, at least in comparison to Dench's. Dench has broken out of her typecast roles of heroine, at great risk, but worth it. Though the composition of the score was a perfect match to the visual tension, it overpowered everything with its sound level.

It was a good movie, but the music was a little overpowering. I felt like I should've been watching some epic fantasy film instead of a lesbian love affair. Otherwise I would have to say that the acting was well delivered by both Dench, and Blanchett. In my opinion, I think Blanchett was excellent as the confused, vulnerable "Mary Kay Letournaux" character. Her role was very accurate. Dench was also pretty good. She was a little annoying at times because of her obsession, but overall, she also managed to deliver a convincing psycho, stalker-type specimen. I don't think they will win in their respective Oscar categories, but they both definitely deserve the nods. However, the movie was good in some areas, and lacking in others. The intensity was there... and it kind of left me with an unsettled feeling of disgust. In other words, the point of the movie came across and that's what I call good film making.

One expects a great performance fron Judi Dench and this one does not disappoint. However I found the plot a bit complex to be dealt with satisfactorily in an hour and a half movie. I would have liked more emphasis on the trial and legal aspects of this story which were completely skipped over. Was the toilet scene really necessary? That baffled me. I thought the Andrew Simpson was remarkable in the role of the 15 yr. Old boy and I think he has a bright future. That a boy would find an older woman attractive is believable but the confidence with which he pursued her seemed to me like a bit of a stretch. In short, I would have preferred a slightly longer movie that would have allowed for more development of the many complex relationships that sometimes were only hinted at I. E. Cate Blanchette and her mother.

It is a masterpiece indeed. The drama presented by the two Shakespearian actresses is magnificent. In my opinion it is the best drama movie made in recent times.

A Movie Don't!!! First of all it's a senior citizen film. I walked in an just about looked like they got in for half price. The movie was even worse, 5 min in I wanted to leave, and I did. So I got a refund, and the usher asked me the reason for the refund, one word sums everything up: crap!!! What made things worst, was on my way more old people were looking at the movie advertisement, am I a magnet for bad movies or what? More advice, epic movie sucks too!!!

Although the acting was great by Dench and Blanchett the movie wasn't the greatest. It was pretty predictable. I would wait and rent it.

A good movie, no doubt... however, I think it would have been better if the movie focused on one of the stories instead of both... meaning, on one of the women's lives, not both. The acting was great, I wouldn't suggest it to anyone below 16 though.
