I saw it a while ago. It leaves a lasting memory; looking forward to viewing it again shortly.

I thought the movie, as well as the book, could have been much better. The storyline was good but I found the whole thing draggy.

Moving romance combined with mystery, accented by visually stunning cinematography.

A good story that needs telling is ruined by a self-indulgent director. Too long... too long... too long. Almost every scene could have been shortened by a third and many should have been dropped altogether as the director felt it necessary to make his point over and over. Add to this the mood/vignettes stolen from Schindler's List (little girl with red doll), Private Ryan (war scenes), The Piano (overall cinematography), made for a boring, squirming 2+ hours. Apart from Von Sydow's soliloquoy at the end, non-acting by all. What a shame!

Technically, it is a wonderful movie, images are superb, the score is perfectly adapted to the story, the editing is the best I saw in a long time (specially the scene where Hawke reads the letter) and the script nicely reflects the beauty of the novel. But, there is a major flaw: Ethan Hawke, I usually like this actor but, this role was not for him, I never felt any passion in his eyes, he was like an observer, he should have been more implicated. Fortunately, Von Sydow was in great shape (seems he always is) and Rebhorn prooved (again) that he is a lot better than all the supporting roles he gets. Over all, it is a movie worth seeing for the story, the scenery and the thinking it makes us do.

Snow Falling on Cedars has all the things I like in a movie: mystery, love story, human emotions, and pain. It is very well produce and acted. The setting and scenery in the movie is an aspect that is worth it in itself to see this film.

This is one of the best films that I have seen. It offered a lot more than I expected. This is no ordinary romantic movie. It showed the life journey of every characters in the movie, looking at one issue from different angles and different perspective. I am not a big fan of romantic movie, but this is a must see.
