Ne pas s'attendre aux classiques d'Eddie Murphy. Le scénario n'est pas à la hauteur des acteurs. Très déçu! Le film nous permet de découvrir qu'Eddie Murphy est rendu dans la cathégorie des ''has been''.

Despite having 3 top actors (DeNiro, Murphy, Russo) it didn't make it the best of comedies. It's not all that bad either. I would watch it again... on television.
| 6/10 | maroonedeclipse@ - 5 reviews 16.8.2002 - age: 18-25 |
This movie was histerical and very well written. Eddie was back in his old form again, I must admit I was skeptical at first, but I loved it. A must see movie.

Pretty Good - but definitely not up to par with what these two great actors can do. I was expecting a lot so I came out disappointed but it really wasn't awful.

Robert... WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO SCAR YOUR MOVIE CAREER WITH A MOVIE LIKE THIS? Eddie doing crap like this is NO SURPRISE... but you... Robert?
| 3/10 | hamudzaman@ - 17 reviews 8.4.2002 - age: 26-35 |
This movie practically does for cop tv shows what Scary Movie did for horror flicks. I was expecting a let down but Showtime ROCKS! Don't be fooled by the trailers and commercials...
| 9/10 | max_steel@ - 10 reviews 7.4.2002 - age: 26-35 |
It's a shame that good talent could go to waste, in such a big way. I love De Niro but hated the part he played in Showtime... yawn! I love Eddy Murphy but hate the fact that he chose such a bore of a role! It's too bad... I thought that it would be worth at least a few laughs. If you need to catch up on some sleep, go ahead and see this movie.

Been there. Seen that. 48 Hours, Rush Hour 1&2, etc. Different setting but predictable. A few good laughs but the talents of Murphy and Deniro were wasted.
| 6/10 | thedevinehouse@ - 19 reviews 4.4.2002 - age: 50+ |
A few laughs, not too many or too loud ones, and a great deal at the holes in the plot. One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time, not even the presence of De Niro was able to save it from just being another mediocre Hollywood movie.
| 3/10 | mira_sd@ - 2 reviews 4.4.2002 - age: 18-25 |
This movie is so lame that it was almost embarrassing to watch. Renee Russo was pathetic!
| 3/10 | dwstutt@ - 4 reviews 3.4.2002 - age: 36-49 |
I have to wonder what people find "funny" when they think this was good, or the great movie of the year? You must think a funeral is hysterical then. This is the worst movie I've seen in a long time. I laughed more at myself for picking to see it! They obviously didn't catch what they were going for cuz the preview made it look so funny and then go you see it and there's nothing there. No jokes, no chemistry, nothing. Save it for when there isn't really much to see at the rentals.
| 3/10 | garone@ - 3 reviews 2.4.2002 - age: 26-35 |
Good movie. Funny and has a plot (sort of, anyway) DeNiro is always worth watching, he's so cool! And Murphy is his usual super-funny self.

Excellent movie. We are at the age were reality shows are very popular. Take a look at Survivor, BigBrother and more. This movie reflects one of them and the Idea was admirable. Great movie. Its a must see!

It was light and easy. I had a few good laughs. The best part of the movie was the ending credits. Never realized how sexy DeNiro could be.

It was a silly farfetched movie but entertaining. We laughed alot. Eddie Murphy was hilarious and Robert De Niro played the straight man well. A movie easily forgotten but a change from the heavies such as A Beautiful Mind, In the Bedroom and Monster's Ball. Worth the $5 on a Tuesday night.
| 6/10 | mstewart@ - 7 reviews 22.3.2002 - age: 50+ |
How can you go wrong with this team? Eddie Murphy and Robert DeNiro. Throw in Rene Russo to round out a great cast. Then, as an added bonus, William Shatner as his delightfully corny self. Now you've got entertainment. Showtime harkens back to the good ol'days of buddy cop films, and pokes fun of them at the same time. It's a simple story with fun characters, funny dialogue, and the best role Eddie Murphy has had since Axle Foley. Yes, The Nutty Professor was great, but The Klumps was just too much, thereby spoiling the original Klump family scenes. It's great to see Eddie doing something that is halfway back to his old swearing self. Showtime offers a good night at the movies, and while it will never be a classic like Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America, it is worth seeing. Who knows when Eddie will land another role like this. Maybe between crappy sequels like Doctor Dolittle 3: The Beastiality Tapes, and The Nutty Professor 3: Heart Attacks All Around.

| 7/10 | joesbeatrice@ - 2 reviews 20.3.2002 - age: 36-49 |
I think they tried to copy the style of Rush Hour a bit, two cops with opposite personalities forced to work together giving rise to fun situations... :-) While Eddie Murphy and Robert De Niro are great actors and constitute a pretty fun pair, we're not laughing as much as we are when we watch Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan pull out their stunts... On the whole, an enjoyable movie but not to the extent of Rush Hour. P. S. The trailer DOES indeed contain the most funny scenes, that's what you call a well done trailer... ;-)

A waste of two good actors. The jokes were predictable and few and far between, and the plot was nonexistent.

If you want to see a GOOD comedy this is the film to see! The story line isn't anything new, but it is a movie that will make you laugh over and over again. Eddie Murphy and Robert De Niro do a great job, along with William Shatner and Rene Russo, even the dog is funny. I would suggest this movie to everyone who is interested in smiling and laughing for an hour or so. The ending isn't great, but then again how do you end a movie perfect doesn't happen to often. The writing is very good, funny and enjoyable I can't wait for DVD I certainly want to see it again. In short this is a MUST SEE movie - good entertainment.

It's not what you expect at all from 2 huge superstars, comedy and acting were not bad but no story what so ever... I was reminded of Rush Hour the whole time watching then the end came and they used the same methods when revealing the credits.

This movie was an ok movie. A few chuckles here and there, but nothing to rave about. DeNiro played the same role we saw in "Meet the Parents", and Eddie Murphy was just trying to go over the top.

Expectations can be quite misleading. Take for instance some of the best films you have ever seen. Were they even more memorable because of their unexpected result? This is a situation that can be encountered upon the film Showtime. Robert De Niro and Eddie Murphy collaborate in a surprisingly fun action comedy that will no doubt surpass expectations. Upon viewing the promos for this film, I was somewhat shocked that my favourite thespian was reducing himself to on-screen comic junk with Eddie Murphy. And as the end credits rolled, I easily came to forgive Robert De Niro for his role in The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle. Tom Dey directs this awfully funny buddy-cop film that contains some surprisingly heavy action sequences. Now before everyone thinks that I am praising the film out of personal bias because of Robert De Niro, they are mistaken. I desecrated The Bullwinkle film and was prepared to do the same for this film. Yet Showtime entertains in a matinee-like fashion that we have not seen for a while. True, it is not fresh for our main characters to portray police officers on film. They both have had their fair share of cop roles. De Niro has Flawless, 15 Minutes and Copland while Murphy has Metro, 48 Hours and Beverly Hills Cop, and while these actors retain the same elements that compose their typical characters, Director Tom Dey somehow manages to extract a vivid and fresh take on the tired concept of the buddy-cop formula. This film has its flaws, there is no doubt about it. There are some heavy plot holes as well as a formulaic concept. Yet, for what it is worth, these inconsistencies do not mean much when as a viewer, you are laughing and simply enjoying the film for what it wants to be mindless fun. Robert De Niro plays Mitch Preston, an ultra-serious Detective who is extremely camera shy. Rene Russo plays a television producer who wants to create a reality based cop show and has Preston in mind for the lead. In order to make the series more appealing, she casts Prestons exact opposite. Here enters Murphy who steals this film (as much as I hate to say it) as he acts in all his other films. He plays Trey Sellers, a cop who has aspirations of becoming a professional actor. As they are brought together for the series, they no doubt but heads. But have you forgotten? It is a formulaic script, therefore while our two antagonists pursue the conventional foreign villain with the thick English accent, they bond, come to care for one another and even save each others lives when given the chance. All this while escaping colossal gunfire and wreaking havoc in their fair city. Director Tom Dey (Shangai Noon) directs his second film and surprises many with this quirky and easy comedy. He establishes his characters quickly and inserts much predictable tension between our two characters. Furthermore, the action scenes while not at all the most intense and carefully choreographed are still quite effective and capture the needed tenacity to demonstrate the evilness of the under-developed villain. In a nutshell, this film is not about good vs. Evil, it centers itself around upon the character clash between these two characters and their repeated attempts at getting on each others nerves. And while they are on the chase for this barely noticeable villain, one remembers the formulaic format that somehow seems to work in this film. The discerning viewer can see the low bridges, the double-crosses and the romantic relationships that are just up ahead. The films highlights will no doubt be the scenes of mindless banter between De Niro and Murphy and their interplay. The most noticeable trait within the film; in my opinion, is the manner in which Director Dey lets these two screen legends perform. As aforementioned, De Niro and Murphys roles are by no means a stretch. And in this film it works because De Niro is typical De Niro. The hands crossed, frown gesturing, subtle, menacing character he always is. Meanwhile, Murphy is always the loud mouth, hyper-filled character he always is. And the script calls for scenes between these two characters that just play off each other. It seems as if Dey simply mounts the camera and lets the noticeable improvisation begin. And somehow it all works. Now that one knows how the film works, this reviewer will not dissect the film in its; most cinematic variables. Nor will I go at length at discussing the strengths and needed improvements within the film. What I will do is wait for the DVD to be released so I can purchase it and laugh myself whenever I deem necessary. Giancarlos Rating: **1/2.

The good part about this film is that it had a great start to a wonderful satire but unfortunately, somewhere along the way, that got lost and it just ended up being a pedestrian movie about a cranky DeNiro (like we haven't seen that before) and an over the top Eddie Murphy (yawn) I would have liked to have seen more villain development since that piece seemed very loosely threaded together.
