The Camerawork was so terrible it really ruined what could have been an averagely good movie, and seemed so patchy and rough hope to avoid any movie that Jay and Mark do, they really made those actors look like idiots...

Based on the preview I saw, I was expecting a comedy, but this film isn't really a comedy, but it is also not really a drama except for the end. John C. Reilly plays a man (John) who starts to date Marisa Tomei's character (Molly), however what he does not know is that her son, played by Jonah Hill wants to keep her for himself. It is a strange story where they play games with each other trying to win Molly over. But there are few laughs, generally you are not sure if the child is just mean or actually sick and the ending still leaves things fairly open.

This movie was great. The acting was very natural and the chemistry between the three characters was top notch. I would love a soundtrack listing, or even a full print of the credits... wonderful character based comedy. My God, the script, the acting, the casting, are all top rate. Reilly has never been better. Marisa Tomei is OUTSTANDING! She deserves the Oscar and Bafta! IF YOU LIKED... Little Miss Sunshine, Juno, Greenberg, Once Around... YOU'LL LIKE THIS.

IMO, It is funny, heartfelt, and beautifully acted by the 3 leads especially Jonah Hill. Usually cast as a scruffy or annoying type, here the actor is fastidiously clean-cut and well-groomed, a façade of normalcy that makes his anger and insecurity all the more disturbing in this triangle relationship.

Not Worth Seeing. This movie sucked. I will never see Jonah Hill the same way again.

I swear this movie is so funny! Strangely I was the only one laughing it seemed, but we were only about 10 people in the theater. But I laughed so many times... I think I may have a strange sense of humor?.. and it's a good story too.

Very believable performance from the stars. It was a nice fresh film that was delivered well. Not a comedy in the sense of typical hollywood humor but a thinking persons comedy.

I really enjoyed this movie. It's an honest portrayal of a man down on his luck in love, who feels sorry for himself until he meets beautiful Marissa Tomei who turns his life around. Two lost souls come together, and Jonah Hill's character adds some comic relief to the movie. An honest movie and solid acting render this movie worth seeing.

It is a really good film and well made. Just don't expect to see a comedy if you decide to check it out. It is a dramedy that I personally thought leaned more towards drama. If you go see it without the expectation that it is going to be a super funny comedy then you'll probably like it. Kind of realistic and believable too, unlike many Hollywood films, which was refreshing.

Awful, awful, awful. Not a comedy. This movie is painfully slow, I guess it would good if you're looking for a cool place to nap in the summer heat. My husband and I were both looking foward to seeing this film and were very very disapointed.

I really enjoyed this thoroughly original and very funny movie. Top notch performances - other people will probably note the two male leads, but Marisa Tomei puts in an excellent acting job in a really difficult role. She has to make a nut job of a person likeable, and she totally pulls it off.

John C. Riley made the movie entertaining for me. And the talented Marisa Tomei always a pleasure to look at. Not your typical comedy but still entertaining...

Good performances by Reilly, Tomei and Hill. A fun-but-real film, very raw and personal, and overall a movie that is worth seeing, if you don't mind a little cursing here and there.

Well... I saw this film with absolutely NO prior knowledge of what it was about. So... a comedy? Uhh... no. A psycho-drama about relatively real people finding themselves? Yes. It is good? Yes. Is it worth seeing? Yes. But don't expect an easy dose of entertainment. You have to engage. Does it have comedic elements? Yeah, but they mainly show the frailty of the characters as they strive to find the thing that we all want... connection. Great performances from all the cast. My only prob was with the over-zelous use of the hand-held camera zoom. Camera moves should be invisible to the viewer. D to many times I was aware of a quick push-in. I give the film a strong 7 rating. Not worth an 8 but worth a look see. But, be prepared to engage. It's not a kick back easy flic. But def worth a view. John c Reilly, Marisa tomai... always tops. I’m new to Jonah Hill but he’s certainly got something. Good flic, but the ending was a bit variable. I didn't know whether to believe the character/plot turn or not. That speaks to the director.

WARNING: THIS IS *NOT* A COMEDY! I REPEAT, ABSOLUTELY N O T H I N G FUNNY IN THIS FILM. Whomever classified this movie is a complete imbecile OR a critic who feels s/he's so far "above the crowd" as to comprehend the subtle inferences, blah, blah, blah (oh wait, I already said imbecile) This is a morose, dark tale of family woe; parent/child co-dependence and child entitlement - something we see and hear about every day in real life on the news or in our families or our friends', so why waste the $ on a ticket? The acting was O-K (FOR A DRAMA) It's as though Ben Stein thinks he's a comedian but nobody had the heart to tell him the truth... the audience didn't know whether to laugh or stare blankly at the screen - waiting for someone else to start laughing as their cue. It was just sad to watch what was happening (both on screen and in the audience) And if Rolling Stone thought this was "The sharpest comedy at Sundance", you can strike off ALL the other "comedies" from your list. It was a total waste of money: absolutely misrepresented as funny as it barely registered one iota of emotional response in the theatre... afterward, when looking at the ticket price; well, that's another story.

This is an excellent movie because its theme is "the truth" and in many ways in everyday life we are strangled by political correctness, fearing that we will hurt someone's feelings if we really say what's on our minds. There's a lot of psychological stuff at work here where "fear" of course is the culprit and can only be conquered by the truth - and it is. The only problem with this film for me was this retro 70s cinematograhpy "fast zoom in close ups" that really had no place in the movie at all. It was seriously like a kid with a toy who never worked a camera before. Let the actors tell the story with a good shot that is framed professionally and spare us from this over the top "zoom in to make the point shots". Sledge hammer at its finest. Good film though.
