This movie was spectacular one of my favourite movies of 2011, I would see it again and again. The acting was great, the CG was amazing, the story was great just everything was awesome. Wish that there would've been a little more destruction and I don't know gore maybe at the end but the movie is a must see.

Great movie. You can't help but to be on the apes' side. Great special effects, good story. I can't wait for the next one.

Worse movie I've ever seen! 8+ ratings... lol. Laughable... pure disgust.

I haven't seen the original films, and wasn't interested in seeing them, but this movie was absolutely amazing! I must say, I went to see it mainly for Tom Felton, but it turned out to be one of the best done movies I've seen in a while. There was so much action, emotion, and meaning to it and it ties together nicely. I cried. Superb film; I plan on buying it!

Too predictable. Nothing new. Well made but no surprises, too cliché.
| 7/10 | wondering.spirit@ - 11 reviews 1.12.2011 - age: 50+ |
This movie was great! Believable SciFi. It kept my interest and didn't seem corny at all (I expected it to be a bit corny) I highly recommend.
| 8/10 | drtraceywillis@ - 5 reviews 30.11.2011 - age: 36-49 |
It was well done and I was never bored for a moment. It had a great deal of depth. The apes were well done and totally believable. I look forward to another Planet of the Apes movie.

Lame. Special effects were amazing but James Franco can't act, shows nothing even with the beauty playing his GF. Lame.
| 6/10 | dannimac@ - 67 reviews 15.11.2011 - age: 36-49 |
This movie is not an 8, it is a 10!! It exceeded all of my expectations, and was by far better than both the previous ones combined. Best movie I have seen all year, it was superbly done. Go see it! I will be buying it.
| 10/10 | darkflame@ - 4 reviews 9.11.2011 - age: 18-25 |
Rise of the planet of the apes was awesome but the battle at the end was the best part of the whole movie, and there's something at the end of the credits but after that I got to say it's worth going to see, I am going to give it a 10 out of 10, go see it.
| 10/10 | starwarskid99@ - 23 reviews 29.10.2011 - age: 1-12 |
I thought it would be a continuation of the original movies. It was not!!! Do not go to this one...
| 2/10 | pmechanical@ - 2 reviews 23.10.2011 - age: 50+ |
I remember going to see the original planet of the apes starring Heston (1968) and really thought it was great. The sequels weren't as good and started the trend to sequels. I saw the remake with Wahlburg and although it was fun it failed to reignite the franchise. This latest effort changed the whole story of the original movies (Caesar was actually an ape from the future and hence introduced us to a time loop) This steps outside the original as an alternate reality. And in my estimation almost matches the grandeur of the original 68 release. I have heard others bash CGI FXs and in this one I can see how CGI can sometimes ruin a film... still animatronics and rubber nisks would have had the same effect. Although I do say that the CGI does make it a bit more believable.

Amazing special effects and good story. Worth viewing if you have seen the original.

The movie was well done and more than I expected. Lots of emotion and exceptional special effects. I will be waiting for the sequel.

Overall: great. Unlike previous POTA movies, this one delivers one of the best character developments I've seen in a long time. The first half of the movie is definitely a perfect set-up for the second half, which really brings each character's personality, conflict and goals into play, without getting straight at the action sequences. Come to think of it, the second half delivered what anyone would expect: Guns, cops, cgi and explosions... Go see it on the big screen, very much worth it!

Loved it! This movie was not meant to be a prequel to the original movies but a new fresh take on the franchise with its own line of new movies completely separate. I was a little off put by the CG apes at first but they could never have caputured the humanization of the apes with real animals. They perfected the art of capturing the range of human emotions in facial expressions and body language and transferring that to the apes which was a real driving force for the movie and actually had you rooting for the apes! Can't wait for a sequel, they would be nuts to not make one.
| 10/10 | junebug81@ - 3 reviews 14.10.2011 - age: 26-35 |
I really liked this movie. Kind of a different twist as to how the apes became "humanized" and took over the world. CGI ape was done very well. Worth seeing.
| 8/10 | bl.morton@ - 77 reviews 11.10.2011 - age: 50+ |
Enjoyable but it's predictable. There's nothing new here and if you've seen the trailers, you know how it plays out but it's still fun to watch. Except for a couple overhead shots, the CGI looks good.

A very good movie to say the least, excellent plot, full of action, I would recommend this movie for everyone!
| 9/10 | clintbressler@ - first review 9.10.2011 - age: 13-17 |
That pretty much sums it up, thought the movie would have delved more into the taking over of the human species.
| 5/10 | timechase@ - first review 5.10.2011 - age: 26-35 |
All in all not too bad, great nods and references to the original movie (bright eyes, etc.) good action, good acting but the ending sucked.
| 7/10 | bunn.glenn@ - first review 5.10.2011 - age: 50+ |
Very good movie, kinda predictable but there was action every second of the movie so I'd give it a 9.3. I hope this movie has a sequel where the apes take over the planet!!!
| 9/10 | wiz.kid.007@ - 8 reviews 2.10.2011 - age: 1-12 |
I really enjoyed this movie. I have never seen any of the other movies so I had no idea what to expect and I liked it. I laughed more then I thought I would and I even cried for a couple scenes. If you want to enjoy funny, drama and sadness it's a perfect pick for a date night.

I went into this with very high expectations and did not leave disappointed. It was a fantastic film. The always great James Franco leads the movie very well along with great special effects. Even if you're not a fan of the originals go see this movie you will not regret it.

This is by far the best of the Planet of the Apes series and I look forward to the sequel that is sure to be forthcoming.
| 10/10 | pat@ - 13 reviews 24.9.2011 - age: 50+ |
A remake should be as good or better than the original and take a different direction rather than merely doing the same thing again. This picture doesn't disappoint in this regard.
| 9/10 | cutedlove@ - first review 23.9.2011 - age: 50+ |
This is a great movie. The specials effects are amazing, the story is great. This movie is a mix of emotions, is not just an action movie. Trust me you'll ask yourself a lot of question getting out of the movie.
| 8/10 | smily1602@ - 19 reviews 23.9.2011 - age: 26-35 |
This must be the most amazing movie I have ever seen in my entire life. I cried at certain parts, others I was just left speechless. The effects on this movie are just unbelieveable and the emotion you feel conecting with the movie are surreal. If you have not seen this. You're missing out BIG TIME.

There was a good prequel. It made sense and it flowed. On top of it, the acting was good and the chimpanzee was not cute, he was true to what monkeys are: desiring freedom!
| 8/10 | maple_1_leaf@ - 2 reviews 16.9.2011 - age: 36-49 |
What an insult to the Planet of the Apes movie series. If you loved the original movie, you will detest this movie. This flick is not worth your time or money. Forget about the other reviews that rate this movie well. What is wrong with people today? If you see it you will regret not listening to my great advice! Turn back, turn back, turn back...
| 1/10 | outoftherain@ - 3 reviews 14.9.2011 - age: 36-49 |
The movie went well, some phoney parts, the end sucked big time...
| 5/10 | clageo0069@ - first review 14.9.2011 - age: 36-49 |
We went to see this film this morning, partly because of its advertised connections to the original "Planet of the Apes" franchise of 1968, and not least because of its then-current "8.5" rating on your web site. Sorry! This not an "8.5" movie! The premise of a vaccine that can greatly enhance intelligence and then fails is taken from "Charly", another 1968 film that earned a Best-Actor Oscar for Cliff Robertson. But after this old, albeit promising, beginning, the film degenerates into the tired old shoot-'em-up clash of the hordes. Certainly not very imaginative. As the rating suggests, "So-so; could have been MUCH better." Save your money!
