Saw this movie 2 weeks ago... loved the book -- a series of essays -- and was curious to see how it could be made into a movie. The film was obviously low budget and only loosely followed the book. In spite of all that, I found it touching and sweet. At the end, my friend and I just sat in the theater for a long time, wishing for a replay. I don't think I've had that feeling since I was 10 years old. Today I'm going to see it again!

I saw a pre-screening of this film at Donald Miller's Storyline conference last year. The film doesn't really follow the book very closely, but tells the story of Don's adjustment from Christian youth pastor to first year college student. The transition is pretty hilarious, and serves as a parallel for many of us that have read the book. There are lots of inside jokes for Christian 20somethings, and many scenes that push the line of what we're used to seeing in so-called "Christian" movies. There are even a couple faces you might recognize. The movie isn't brilliant or big-budget, but it's charming and memorable and has lots of good conversation starters. It's worth seeing if only to relive your own journey from the bubble of Christian culture into the 'real world.' Just don't expect lots of quotes from the book.
