The wonderfulness of the Superman mythos was somewhat muted in this effort, but it was certainly good as far as it went. I would have preferred a more complete 're-imagining' of the story and personalities rather than a heavy borrowing from the Christopher Reeves movies. I was bothered by the relative ages of the actors... Kate Bosworth looks hardly more than 25, and her son looks much older than 5. So far no filmmaker has captured the essential weirdness of Superman's character and existential situation... the personification of alienation and deus ex machina... The fans would probably hate such a thing, however. One more thing... Parents, don't bring your Young children to this movie unless they are thoroughly trained to sit quietly through a 2 hour+ movie. Shushing them every 30 seconds (as was happening in the row directly behind me) is not a substitute for good movie manners. In any case, this is _not_ a movie that will appeal to little kids...
