I did not really like it... it was sex and war sex and war all the time, It was 3h long of that! It's just war after war and after 3h you just want to know who will win at the end!

This movie spits in the face of one of the greatest stories of all time. To even associate this movie with the Fall of Troy and the Illiad is the greatest offense ever. No amount of good action or acting or anything can save a movie if the script is a giant pile of crap. If they called this something else and made it about the capture of some fictious ancient city then it would probably be a 7. But to kill off characters who didn't die in the original story and COMPLETELY exclude the gods from the story is... I can't think of a good adjective that would fit this abomination of a story idea. The gods were the reason for the war, the reason for Achilles death, the reason for Paris living through his fight with Menelaus so to remove them is stupid. If you want to enjoy a movie adaptation of the fall of Troy AVOID THIS MOVIE AT ALL COSTS! If you want to see a half decent action then watch it for the action and take no note of the story.

I have to say I wasn't really that impressed with this movie and if it weren't for the impressive action sequences I wouldn't like this movie at all. Having said that the movie is still pretty good a solid performance from Brad Pitt this isn't his best movie but it certainly isn't his worst either. Like I said the action is impressively good and characters are pretty good too. The one thing I really didn't like about this movie was Brian Cox's 1 dimensional performance but hey it does happen from time to time I really liked him in X-men 2 X-men United but not so much in this film oh well still a good action flick recommended.

Although it was not 100% true to the greek mythology, in the name of entertainment, it was fairly close. For example in greek mythology, after Achilles slayed Hector, he dragged him around Troy for 9 days before taking him back to his tent. Very good overall movie.

I had high hopes for this movie but they are gone now. If you now anything about the fall of Troy or have read the Iliad you will not like this movie.

First of all, I was amazed to see that Pitt really got developed for this movie and was well casted as Achilles. As an epic genre blockbuster it has all the big scenes and is done well. I think Bloom was not properly casted although he does the "job". It's story doesn't bring the audience into an emotional involvement as it relies too much on grandeur. Definitely a big screen only movie.

This movie was as close a depiction of the time of the fall of the city of Troy as one could expect to see in a movie. The battle scenes were truly awesome... A must see movie.

Epic scenes, a real sense of the historical period. I learned, by visual impact, what 'fight like a Trojan' really meant. Pretty impressive. However, no 10 rating for me as I really don't need extended gore-glorifying battle scenes. They could have saved some time there. But, if you want an inspiration to learn more about lliad, this could do it!

I hope we can do re-reviews here. An interesting idea if you watch the movie again later on and have a new perspective. I loved many of Brad Pitt's touches to his character in the movie. It gave more power in his role as being a violence oriented slaying machine, who has a capability of self restraint, with a touch of mercy and a brain, rather than a mindless guffawing thug. I especially liked his subtle looking to the skies when his mother announces he'll be remembered for eternity, and when he ushers of Hector with a 'pssst'. Patroclus was a very interesting character... showing how mindless young men easily/naively/ignorantly allow themselves to fight in wars based on the foolish whims of their countries leaders. Watching the duel scene again and again reveals some poor edit cutting but shows the intense training Pitt and Bana did to pull of a flowingly skillful and full force combat to the death. My only true criticism is that the timeline was too scrunched up and way too many inaccurate fates of characters compared to the classic tale. Spending $200 million on a movie could allow for some creative way of being closer to the true story. But a joy to watch... as someone mentioned, you won't fall asleep in this well paced movie.

I can see that adolescents greatly appreciated this movie for the action and the beauty of the actors. As for me I think Pitt was disappointing whereas Bana delivered a wonderful performance. Great battle scenes as expected, but the 2 hour movie fails to capture all that Homer put in his work. The end was disappointing. Anyway, the mythology tells us that the descendants of Aeneas who escaped Troy are founders of Rome. Talk about vengeance against the Greek.

Eric Bana, who plays Hektor, is gorgeous. He plays his part in this movie. Just gorgeous! I don't really like mideival movies, but this one was off the hook. Eric needs to get more roles in movies, because he can act. With his fine ass. OOPS, excuse the french. I like the other characters too.

Achilles was the leading character in the Iliad and in the whole Trojan saga. No wonder if he is the leading character in the movie. The filmmakers did'nt spoil the Iliad... they only reinterpretated it. The massage is very easy to understand: peace is better than war. And this is Homer.

The movie troy was really cool! (excluding anyway Brad Pitt's ass, mine is sexier than him... lol) well, anyway very nice story. Although it has so many exagerations on it, still must-be-movie-of-the-year.

The movie is very entertaining, the story is well put together, but what's up with Brad Pitt? I always thought he was a great actor, but he sure didn't put much efforts in that movie. Thank god Eric Bana was amazing in the role of Hector, but the ending was too '' hollywood cheesy''.

I think the movie ad show loved and happiness. It showed how one man greatest was fighting, but this woman show life is more than killing. The ending was a sad scene because it showed how love is the strongest thing. It was sad becuase Brad had died.

Lets see... I expected way better... w/ Brad Pitt... Orlando Bloom Eric Bana? Hm... it cudve been as good as lord of the rings... just the camera angles... the music.. (where it was... n where it wasnt) n jus mebbe... the actin itself wasnt that great... they switchd scenes way too fast... Brad Pitt didn look like he was too serious bout this movie... but then again... that could be his character... not to care bout emotion... right? This movie had so much potential... but it's the lil things that made it look bad... like... in one scene... the camera shouldve been showing both actors (When Brad was fiting Eric) but... they had the camera over Eric's shoulder... bad position... cuz now.. u have to build up the heat again... if they had made it more dramatic... it cudve been a lot more better... like I said... it had the potential of Lord of the rings... maybe if Peter jackson directed? Haha but then I guess these kind of movies are trivial to him~! But still a good movie to watch... ending is sad n all... but still great movie... couldve been better.

What are all these "I've read the poem so the movie is bad" people talking about? We all know going in that the movie is a HOLLYWOOD production. It will obviously be exaggerated. I mean, they're selling a product here, so they have to exagerate a little. That's what makes the movies fun to go to. The producers never had in mind to show us the whole poem by Homer completely unabridged. We'd have died."Troy" is a damn good movie. The acting was fine. Yes, even on Brad Pitt's side. He's not that bad in this movie. I think Eric Bana steals the show as Hector. Man, he's a great actor. There are two proofs of that : 1. We all pretty much feel sorry when he dies 2. I (and probably a whole lot of others) still remember his name well after the movie. Anyways, to sum it all up : Helen of Troy is freakin' hot, the acting is generally very good, the story (sure, it's an exaggeration, but what the hell! ) is very believable and the visual effects are nothing short of fantastic. The only reason I didn't rate this movie 10/10 is because of the dialogue : it's a bit too cliché..

Over all not bad, but could be so, so much better! First of all there was too many and too much focus on the sex scenes. The battles were... I don't know how to even describe them... not right... not... I don't know... and they didn't even mention anything about the gods and how they took up roles in the story. And they decided to leave out the disease that ravanged the enemy camp... bah! Im a big history fan and this movie was dissapointing... they could have cut some of the scenes out and I do believe that it didnt need to be that long. Thank you. Good bye.

I was absolutly disgusted with this movie. As a huge fan of ancient history and mythology I was deeply disapointed with the flagrent display of mis-representation of both. Also the actors of choice, Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom? Come on, sure they are nice to look at but in this movie that is all they were there for to hype up this movie, dont get me wrong both are good actors but were a poor choice for such a movie. Instead of the movie being about the fall of troy, it became about achilies having sex with some girl, but then again the writing of this movie was soo poor that they had to put something in there to spice it up a little, frankly I would have rather watched an old school version of the fall of troy like we used to watch in school with some unknown actors who have long since passed and get the real story of troy than watch this peice of crap "Hollywood blockbuster" version. All this movie was, was a bunch of computer generated battle scenes that looked so fake it made the WWE look real. I left the theatre angry that I had payed good money to see such a crappy film and I would never recomend it to ANYONE, in fact steer clear of this movie at all costs it's a waste of money and time.

Apart from the jealousy I felt when my girlfriend went out with a couple of friends to see Troy and came back telling me how incredibly hot Orlando Bloom and Brad Pitt look in short skirts, I'd have to say this movie was fairly good. I particularly enjoyed the performances of Eric Bana and Sean Bean (the best actor in the WORLD!!! ), and thought that Peter O'Toole couldn't have done a better Priam, so I must say, I was disappointed when I heard such terrible reviews about it. I mean look at it this way: it's about a hot chick who starts a war. This is a man's movie!!!

Not another one of these! Jumping on the LOTR bandwagon of huge digital battle scenes set in an epic scenario. Entertaining, ok maybe for some, original... not. Every cliche in the book is in this film down to the famous Brad Pitt butt-shot. The director/producer failed to portray the myth with detail & originality, instead focusing on large battle scenes and sappy seen-before character interactions. The fight scene between Pitt & Bana was a bright spot though. It was pretty cool that Legolas was in the movie, I didn't know that he was part of the Troy myth... (!!! Why Hollywood why? )

Epic movie, great performances, famous actors... but I felt the story hinged too much on the fame of the actors especially Brad Pitt. Don't get me wrong, it is a good movie, but I expected more. This movie did not seem to deliver all it could have.

This story (poem actually) was written alomst 3000 years ago (720 BC) You know it's gotta be great if it can last that long. Do yourself a favour and see this epic tale of ambition, pride, honour, greed, and lust. Not much has changed. Wolfgang Petersen did a terrific job..

Its a movie based on a poem. How could you go wrong? Great action sequences and overall pacing. Achilles (Brad Pitt) is cool, he has sweet moves, and is both good and evil. Diane Kruger as Helen is truly the face that sank a thousand ships. Forget Tolkiens Lord of the Rings. Homer rawks.

Brad Pitt is Brad Pitt; and sure they take many Hollywood (almost Bollywood) style liberties with the original story line. That said, Eric Bana is extremely good as Hector; the actor portraying Odysseus gives a perfect rendition of that character; the Greek kings are effectively portrayed as the Afghani style warlords they must have been. Finally the special effects can only be appreciated on a big screen. And what the heck, the story has been out of copy write protection for 3000 years, so don't be a purist; just enjoy it for what it is.

Brad Pitt acts like a 12 year old "surfer dude" throughout the whole movie. It was hilarious! His scene with Peter O'Toole is particularly funny. The expression on Pitt's face is one of an altar boy who suddenly realizes that the priest is coming on to him. Brad Pitt was not the worst actor in this film though. That honour goes to the guy who played his cousin. Not since Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic have I seen acting this bad. If you go to see Troy, go only for the laughs.
