I have to say from the beginning when I heard about the movie I wasnt to enthusiastic about seeing it, but due to Mr.[...] my history teacher, I watched it in order to help me write a paper on it. It helped me understand about the battle at Fort Wagner and so forth, I thought it was a great movie. [...]

I like this movie, it was not that bad of a movie. I think it had a little tomuch violence. I also think if you dont know much about the civil war it would be kind of confusing. Also if you dont like violence, you realy wont like it. It has a lot of blood splatering. Other than that, I think it was o. K... If you saw it in a movie theater, it would have been better. If you like ahead and watch it. But I warn you if you do like action movies, I dont recomend this for you..

I have seen the movie Glory! I think that this movie was fantastic! It taught me alot about the Civil War! I liked this movie because it is realistic and shows you how horrible slavery was because, gladly, we were not there to experiance slaveryfor ourselfs. I feel sorry for those who were. The movie Glory was amazing! I would recemend this movie to everyone who has ever lived! I am very glad that I got to see the movie Glory!

The movie was excellent, but a little to much violence. I would reccommend it to 5th grade and up. I beleive all of the movie, but why would the makers of this movie show every detail?!

I personoly, think that the movie "GLORY" is extremely violent and should not be viewed by youngsters. But all in all, it is a very educational movie. I would want everyone in 5th grade to see it.

Glory is an excellent detailed movie. Altho Glory is a rated R movie and has blod and violance it is some what an eduational tool(that can be used by teachers) Glory is about a Young man named Robert Shawl who charges into a rough battel on Fort sumpter with colors now alowed in battle. [...] I watched Glory and you should too.

It is not a movie I would absolutley reccomend. Glory is a very educational, but violent movie. I think children should see it in school or at home so they can see how bad these people got hurt. This movie is a movie I would never want to see, but that's just me. Some people may like movies like this, but it's not my kind of movie. It was not that pleasent seeing people get killed, but that's how it was back then. It was'nt that exciting to see all those civilians get whipped, killed, shot, or hurt in any way. So, why I choose the rating 6- not bad, it could be much better is because it is not my style. Any other person may say different, but I say it could be somewhat different.

My opinion is that I thought it was good. I think the ending was good. [...] I did not get to see it all, but the parts I did see they were great. My favorite part was when Thomas got shot and he ask Robert to promise him he would not get sent back home, I think that was really brave of Thomas to stay at the war instead of being sent home to stay at home with your loving and caring family. I would have went home at any chance I could get. I also thought it was really sweet of Robert to let him stay there.[...] This movie is really sad to me. If I could watch it again I would. The director did a good job.

"Glory" was the best movie I have ever seen. If you like action this is the best movie for you. Even though it is rated "R", I think people over the age of 10 should be able to watch it. The rating of stars I gave it were 10. I think you should watch it!

It is not what I thought it was going to be. [...] I don't think it's my type, but it might be an older person's beacuse they were born berfore us, and are a little old fashioned. It was not very comfortable seeing slaves being killed, or even getting hurt. Sometimes it was exciting being able to see that they actually got to fight in the war, and that they sometimes won. The reason why I chose number 6-Not bad, could be much better was beacuse as you know it's not my type, and I think it could be much better beacuse they could add a little bit of more action, and make it exciting for kids. I think this is an o. K movie.

Fascinating! Any scene that was in it had a meaning in it! "Glory" had depressing scenes and action, happy scenes for a 1989 video. Any WAR lovers will worship this movie. As I am a WAR lover myself. I give this a rating of ten for its fabulous directing, sound effects, and actors and actresses. This was rated-r for violence and blood, but still this was in 1989. And 1989 rated-r movies are like rated-pg in the year 2004. Even some of my freinds aren't war lovers, but they loved avery other scene! So you SHOULD see this movie. Buh-bye!

I think that this movie was very strong and effective. The movie realy shows what it was like to be a runaway slave that wanted to be in the army. I respect the way they made it. The charcters, setting, and film makers craft was very good. Thesound effects for the battle of Fort Wagner. The settings were a little unafective, but they were okay. Overall this movie was very good.

I think it was a great movie. I learned a lot in it, as I watch it in my 10th grade U. S. World History class I came to a better understanding, also I found out that Matthew Broderick is a great actor and I want to marry his character, because its my ideal man and he just portrayed it so well. I cried when he died and the rest of my class just laughed at me. BUt I was not the only 1 in my class who wanted him!! Over half of the girls fell in love with him, how he was brave yet sensitive towards other, but still remained strong.

This movie, is the best movie to go along with the life back when The Civil War was takin place... And from when blacks and white started to get along, it is not about color it is about MAN in you, and SPIRT, PRIDE.

I love this movie! I truly believe Matthew Broderick made an amazing Col Robert Gould Shaw. I also enjoyed the performances by legendary Morgan Freeman And Denzel Washington! It was an excellent movie because it followed the war exactly as it was (I researched Shaw and noticed everything in the movie followed his life almost exactly!) which made it so much better than other war documentaries and even better... Broderick looked almost exactly like the real col (almost uncanny) It was a truly inspirational movie that allows viewers to get up close in personal with the history of this country. The end brought tears to my eyes to see Shaws devotion to his troops and theirs to him. Its just not fair the way he died.

Glory (1989) I'm sure everyone has a film they can say they have watched over a hundred times and are still not tired of. A film you can rely on to always be there and never disappoint or let you down even when times are tough. For the soft of heart it might be the irrepressibly mushy "Bridget Jones Diary" or "Pretty Woman". For those who require a little more intellectual stimulation and reward, films like "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Sixth Sense" may take your fancy. However, in my case, the one film that I never cease to tire of is the 1989 classic "Glory". It is essentially the story of one of the first ever black [...] battalions in the history of the American army set against the backdrop of the country's civil war of the 1860's. This dramatic story of individual bravery and a collective will to restore a people's pride in the face of adversity is portrayed through the eyes and words of the battalion's Young, inexperienced and white officer, Colonel Robert Gould Shaw (Matthew Broderick) The film begins with Broderick's voice narrating a letter written by Shaw to his mother, as he leads a platoon of men onto the battlefield. He recites a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson that sets the tone for the rest of the movie. He states "A deep man believes that the evil eye can wither, that a heart's blessing can heal, and that love can overcome all odds". It is at this early stage that you realise this is going to be no run-of-the-mill war movie. After this contemplative start the film rapidly erupts into violence as Shaw leads his group of men on a charge against the enemy in the famous Battle of Antietam. Some of the scenes in this volcanic opening, although sometimes gruesome, give you an insight into the massive scale and severity of the 19th Century conflict. As the battle comes to a close you are introduced to one of the most soulful and heartwrenching soundtracks you're ever likely to hear. Composer James Horner ("Braveheart", "Field of Dreams") never fails to grab the appropriate emotion to multiply the effectiveness of each scene. His use of the hauntingly high-pitched voices of the "Choir Boys of Harlem" allows you to feel that you are watching something very meaningful and worthwhile. Due to Shaw's exploits in this blood-filled yet successful battle and the highly influential position of his aristocratic father, the Young and idealistic rich boy receives the unenviable task of training and preparing for battle the 54th Massachusetts Infantry, a group of uneducated and recently emancipated black slaves. So, off he goes with his friend Major Cabot Forbes (Cary Elwes) to try and turn this group of vagabondes and seeming no-hopers into a well-drilled fighting unit. Although this storyline is perhaps following a fairly predicable path one element sets it apart from all the others, the cast! Perhaps the best possible group of emerging black actors was assembled for the production including now well-established actors such as the outstanding Morgan Freeman (Sergeant Major John Rawlins) , Andre Braugher (Thomas Searles) and Denzel Washington (Trip) , who won an Oscar for his portrayal of a rebellious slave unwilling to adapt to the life of a soldier. The lead role is also surprisingly well played by the normally comedy orientated Matthew Broderick. He successfully displays the morally driven yet fragile and naive Young officer. The film contains some delightful one-on-one confrontations between individuals, and the main characters all develop well as the film progresses. The concluding scenes of the film make the experience of watching the development of the different personalities worthwhile. The penultimate attack on an enemy stronghold set against a stunning backdrop of sand dunes and crashing waves makes for wonderful viewing. It's not hard to see why the film won an oscar for cinematography. As the soldiers race towards the enemy in a hail of bullets and canon-fire they are accompanied by a rising crescendo of exhilarating music. It gets me every time! I'm tempted to describe the ending of the film to you. However, as I've had the luxury of watching it a thousand times I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet. Although you may be fooled into thinking "Glory" is quintessentially a war movie you might be surprised by the quality of the dialogue and the supreme performance of the actors. I'll let you make up your own mind..

'Glory' is a film about hope, courage, life and death. The score is excellent, moving and thoughtful, and the story continues to keep to the history as well as the drama. The tale takes a sharp turn at the end, and shows us what happens in wars, and even if you fail and fall to your knees, you can still be a hero. If you believe in something so much you risk your life if not to just make a point, if you are there when someone needs you most, if you will stand your ground and fight, then 'Glory' will make you proud.
