There is some beautiful photography in this movie, and the history is interesting. The obsession with the past I find somewhat pathological; even tragic. There needs to be recognition of past atrocities, but we also need to move forward and live in the present moment - in spite of its denial by science. To me, the barren Atacama was the perfect metaphor to underscore the result of clinging to past injustices/hurts.
