Apocalypse Now

Apocalypse Now, Francis Ford Coppola's treatise on the absurdity and futility of war takes place during the Viet Nam conflict. Based on Joseph Conrad's novel, Heart Of Darkness is one of the best war films ever made about America's involvement in Viet Nam. With a very good cast and Martin Sheen giving one of the most memorable portrayals in American cinema history. Apocalypse Now while very good at the time was uneven and it's ending was muddled. In 1993 Coppola re-edited his famous movie putting scenes back into his movie that were cut out of the commercial theatrical version and changing the order of appearance of some of the scenes, expanding his film into a much more satisfying film experience titled, Apocalypse Now Redux, which in my humble oppinion is the better movie version of this historic film. Nevertheless, Apocalypse Now is a film not to be missed whichever version that you see, especially on the big screen. I gave the first version a nine out of ten. The second director's non theatrical cut is the true masterpiece very worthy of a ten.
