Not bad! Like many reviews here, I found incredible scenery with a ho-hum plot. The thing is, this is an action movie. Does anyone remember the action movies of the 80's? You generally go to see the action, not profound, life-changing plots. There are holes in the plot which don't make sense. It's true. But is the action good? Absolutely. In fact it's a cut above, very similar to District 9 (big surprise!) The pace is fast and the director (or editors) chose to leave out details in order for the story to keep on ticking. This is one movie which isn't over 2 hours long like the apparent norm these days. Problem is there is some character development that could have been stronger. Damon is the big selling point, can't help but like him. All the other actors definitely could have been better. Too much ineffective use of flashbacks for my taste. Jodie Foster's fake accent is truly terrible. She's supposed to be French? Spider was not very believable. What Elysium does offer is some novel scenes and concepts which make it worthwhile and then some. Action is solid! If you can get over the shaky plot you'll enjoy this one.
